1009 or 1039 fel pro gaskets and cam ? - 01/09/11 05:55 PM

I know this subject has been gone over I searched and found info on this subject. But they discused clyinder bore over hang with the 1009 I have a different problem due to unshrouding the valves i have a very little amount of chaber overhang I have the engine assembled but im putting a different cam in it going from the mopar .528 to the 312 duration .590 cam and im thinking I might as well put the bigger bore 1039 head gaskets on. Whats your take.

While I have your attention Ill make this a 2 for 1 ?. cam centerline calls for 104 should I install it at that or advance it to say 102 or 100 heres the combo 440 40 over studs in the bottom forged crank good rotating assembly ross domes should egual 12:1 with eagle rods rod .990 pins so its a lot lighter than the stock rotating assembly so im comfortable spining at 6,500 rpms.
Up top its got a 1000 cfm alchol carb on a one inch spacer on a m1 intake feeding ported 452 heads I know those will probaly be the point holding the combination up but want to leave something for future improvments.
The car ways 3,100 with a 4,500 stall and 4.56 in a 8.75 out back.
I already had it running with the .528 cam it ran good it was very responsive but did not feel like it was enough cam for what i wanted to do. Strip only high 10's

My 440 with Stealths had a overhang problem in the chambers. They were the first ones. The 039s hung over the 009s didnt.I ran their Marine gaskets.I have 12.5 domes and they have been on for 3 years street/strip.No problems.I didnt want to run the 009s as they seem cheaper than the Marines.Rocky

My combo is very similar to yours. The biggest difference is mine has Stealth heads and a 1050 gas (Sunoco 112). I originally set mine 2* advanced, but after 3 passes, I retarded it 4*(2* from straight up) to help calm the launch down. I later set it straight up, where its at now. Car is deadly consistant, but it will run quicker with the cam advanced, as long as the suspension/track will hold it. It also likes ignition timing set at 38*-40*. Don't be afraid to advance this cam.
As far as the head gaskets, I went with Cometic's for a 4.380 bore because the ones for a 4.350 bore were backordered. No problem with them.
