727 transmission full manual valve body ?

727 transmission full manual valve body ? - 12/29/10 01:05 AM

I have a 727 SB trans behind my 5.7 hemi. I have a transgo-2 kit installed. What I really want is a reverse pattern, full manual shift with 1st gear braking.
1) Can I modify my valve body? How ?
2) Do I need to buy a modified valve body? Who's'

I really like the Griner manual valve body's.
There are other good ones, but that is what I run in my 727 and have been happy.

do you want one for racing or the street?

Re: 727 transmission full manual valve body ? - 12/29/10 03:20 AM

Its for my black 5.7 hemi street rod. But I want to race it from stop light to stop light. Due a design error there is no way to connect the kick down/throttle linkage. I was told the only way to do away with that linkage is to go to a full manual valve boddy. Plus I want the braking effect in first gear. I also like the reverse shift pattern.
1) So, is a Griner VB an easy swap? I was told I would also need to change the reverse servo arm to a 4.2 if I went with a manual VB. Could I still run the stock arm?

My dad and I both run the Cheetah pro street manual valve body (17675) on street cars, and love 'em. They are forward pattern though.

i have used the griner manual vb with the band on in first gear in four transmissions i have done one had a 2.9 lever , a 3.2 lever they shifted mint.no overlap on the 2-3 shift.all of these trans originally had turbo action valve bodies, that were burning high gear clutches.all of my customers noticed a diffrence in shift feel.one unit i got to recheck because he broke the motor ,the clutches and band were mint.it is the best vb you can buy.give 727 specialist a call he can hook you up with a vb later john.

u can buy a cable setup from lokar for kickdown, the only thing thats going to happen trying to go to low to slow down is sliding rear tires.

Give John Cope a call at CRT, 219-374-0100. I’m running one of his reverse manual Valve bodies in my 69 Bee street car. Works great and John is one of the best.

No one addressed the 1st gear braking issue you asked about. Griner sells a standard and a reverse pattern manual. Don't have a clue about TA, A&A, Tranzact. The standard pattern has first gear braking. Mancini and Lokar has the goods to hook up your kickdown linkage.

CRT,John fixed me up a full manual foward shift low band apply VB

used the CRT billet low/revs servo also

no kickdown linkage for my 88 440 truck

IIRC the trans go-3 shift kit makes it full manual shift, but forward shift pattern

thats a nice street rod too

My Griner manual valve body has low band apply (1st gear braking). The lever arm is for the front band, not the rear.

Front sevro/band and lever: 2nd gear
Rear servo/band: 1st (if low band apply) and reverse (all valve bodies)

I use a 3.8 lever, so I see no problem with a 3.2 or 3.8, or even the 4.2. The billet rear servo is a good idea if you are going to be down shifting to 1st (rear servo/low band apply). I like the $75 kit that Randy sells with a heavy duty spring and retainer with the servo, see the parts for sale section of this web site.

x4. i recommend it highly. p.s., i LOVE your car! the gen III hemi thing is where i'm headed, i think. is there an adapter available for torqueflite?

Thanks All,
looks like I'll go either Cope or Griner.

"Maximum Entrophy"
The torqueflite bolts up to a 5.7, same bolt pattern. I bought a flex plate from Mancini to adapt the crank to the torqueflite converter. Running a Mopar intake with Carb and MSD Hemi-6 ignition. All pretty simple.

I am running the T/A reverse manual
There are some now that let you do 1st gear burnout though.
I know CRT used to recommend one that did as he use them in his builds .

W/r/t "Due a design error there is no way to connect the kick down/throttle linkage. I was told the only way to do away with that linkage is to go to a full manual valve boddy"
Let me translate: the person who told you this doesn't know how.

Drove a full manual on the street 50 years ago. Gets old 10 minutes into traffic. I actually wore out the detent steps in the shift gate. Can't drive the car at all if it rains in the next town, the car will loop at 10 mph on the 1-2 shift unless the wheels are straight.
A loose converter fixes a lot of this, but is that what you want?

My Demon has had a big block and a RMVB 727 for 20 years, I have never had the issues Polyspheric speaks of. My RMVB is Tranzact brand with a brake.
