Yeah, Leon, right? That car's wicked-cool.
I've always wanted a '65 Barracuda, and one of my favorite cars of all time is the '65 "Hemi-Cuda" that Pat Foster & the "slippin' twins" (Bob & Don, aka B&M Trans) built; first one flipped @ Lions with McEwen up, 2nd one ran for awhile, and ended up at Garlits' museum last I saw it.

Re: Modified 65 B'Cudas(pics) - 12/15/10 02:36 AM

Can't find the old pictures on my Computer. But, the cowl hood really kills the car. I had a 72 Demon scoop I had enlarged the opening 100% and raised about 2". It looked great IMO. Problem is forward facing hood mounted scoops try to peel off at 170MPH.

I would like to run the Tri Aero scoop mounted to the carb but need a new Carbon Fiber flat hood. VFN does not want to make Carbon Fiber at this time. What do you guys think of that scoop on this car?

Pretty sure this is a 66'. I have seen several hundred 65's and only two come to mind that had the body change and were still 65's. Square bumpers and flat grill usually a 66. Although I saw one first hand that was a 65 baby blue with square backup lights, bumpers, and flat grill as well as the 66 dash and the car was a 65. The other 65" that looked 66 was the Hurst Hemi under glass.

Re: Modified 65 B'Cudas(pics) - 12/16/10 01:14 AM

the first hemi underglass was a 65,in no way a 66.the 66 was on the match race-show circuit. b1fish540,just makin someting to take to local car shows, the hemi will just be a dummy, the car is a /6.anyone have any skinny 4 inch pattern cragers?

It's not a '65 but it's a '66. Bought it for my dad a few years ago and we restored it to this a little each winter. He races it and drives it everywhere. He won the Sportsman class in the local Mopar series this year.

Thanks BIGDAD I always wanted a pic of Petty's Barracuda. My distant cousin's husband Freman Treadway built that car when he worked for Petty. My uncle match raced him with a Ford Falcon at Roxboro NC.

I used to have a pic of a 65 on the front of a Summit sale flyer. It was light green or yellow and had a 72 Duster scoop on it and no front bumper. It had to have been in the mid 90's as this is where I got the idea to do that scoop. I used to be a copy cat too.LOL

That Barracuda of Petty's is the only car my Uncle ever admitted to have beaten him every pass up the track. He said he would leave in the falcon ahead of Petty and the ole hemi would pull around him at the stripe. For those that know Roxboro they used to run 1/4 mile there.

Wes, all of us that love the 65 Barracuda have probably seen that footage or heard about it. Petty was on a hiatus from oval track racing and built the Cuda for some match racing which was very popular at the time. Maybe his credintuals as a great GN driver did not prepare him for the wild beast that the Cuda surely was. I dont know all the particualrs(track, driver, car??)...does anybody? Chime in if you do.

Nice car may not be a 65. The rear quarters and bumper are really late rare 65 or more likely 66. Then the front marker light. That is robbed from a 68 although that is something neat about all 68 mopars Would be nice to have the one in the rear quarter to go with it. The tail lights are 64-65 though notice the round shape that would hold a round backup light. Can't see the dash or the front end. Nice sleak car.

Notice there is what appears to be a black 64 or 65 to the right you can only see the bumper & tail lights for identification.

How much tire can you get into a '64-'66 Barracuda without tearing out the interior wheelhousings?
If you mini-tub them, do you have to build tubs for the tires that are visible from the interior, or can you section/widen the stock inners?
Posted By: Leon441

Re: Modified 65 B'Cudas(pics) - 12/21/10 01:41 AM

You can't get much under them stock.

With the springs moved under the frame and a mini tub I got an N50-15 M&H or a 28X12.5 MT or a 28X10 slick.

Re: Modified 65 B'Cudas(pics) - 12/21/10 04:25 AM

Leon, that's my question: if you mini-tub a '64-'66 B'cuda, do you have to move the whole long wheelhouse, or can you? Or do you have to make a half-round intrusion into the rear compartment?
Posted By: Commando66

Re: Modified 65 B'Cudas(pics) - 12/22/10 06:59 PM

The wheelhouse is the same as a Valiant. The interior panels are removable. My Barracuda is mini-tubbed with 295/50's.

So what's wrong with 63?

FYI, my first car in high school was a '65 Formula S Barracuda. What a ride for a youngster. The fold down back seat and trunk panel made for some good times too.

Thanks, Commando - so they can be mini-tubbed and still run stock interior, if I understand you correctly (and if you understood me correctly).

Re: Modified 65 B'Cudas(pics) - 12/23/10 06:24 AM

You will have to add some strips to the interior pieces just like adding to the tubs. You'll have narrow the pan that makes the cargo floor flat. I haven't worked out the back seat yet.

Here's a couple more pics of my friends car that B1fish540 requested. The paint job has already been copied by a few other people and even some GM owners. The inside looks just as good as the outside but I don't have any pics of the inside. But could get some I'm sure.

Thanks, love that car!

Hey bigdad thanks for the post, my Dad and I spent alot (and I mean alot) of late nights and weekends scratching our heads, engineering, fabricating, and drinking beer to get the 1956 354 inch HEMI to fit into a stock front suspension early a-body. Misc. components etc: the front brake set up is '74 Dart Swinger Disc set-up w/ manual steering (4 1/2 bolt pattern), PST kit, fire wall relocated 2 inches, stock exhaust manifolds from 1956, custom exhaust pipes(20+hours in fab), big-block t-bars, TH350 trans, center sump oil pan (modified +/-2qts.), stock /6 K-frame w/ homemade motor mounts, custom everything... and now nothing but fun, fun, fun with a (stock) HEMI powered '65 Valiant Thanks Brian & Gordy
