My 422 W5 combo went a best of 6.15 on alcohol at around 3200 before I started spaying it. Then started finding the week link regularly. Went 5.66 with 250 shot.

Where did you get the intake? If you still have it would you be interested in selling it?

The mopar intake is Junk

Get yourself a INDY intake

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/14/10 08:27 PM

if i got a indy would i have to go to a 950 carb???

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/14/10 11:23 PM

My combo.. no pics on my phone though.
3100lb 11.5 tire, 69 dart.
ladder bar, 727 trans
408cu.R block, W5s injected on alky
roller cam...
So far 6.13@113.05 1/8th
9.63@139.57.
If I can ever get it to 60 decent it will run consistent 50s easy enough. Only has went 1.36 and usually 1.37. 60ft. Just spins horribly at the hit. And if it does hook initially it will unload when the tires touch back down. This is also with no hood as the injectors are to close to the bottom of the hemi scoop.

I have a cnc program to open up the Indy intake to 4500 flange, and redrill the bolt pattern.
Then I hand finish the runner entrances. I'll post some pics as soon as I do the next one.

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/15/10 01:35 AM

Yes a 950 or 1000 4150 carb

would be good.

Your short block is OK at best a stock block and stock 360 cast crank.

You can make 600 HP with W5's and a INDY intake easy. That is not good for a stock block and cast crank.

I would keep your RPM's 6500 or less

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/15/10 05:48 AM

We've gone a best of 9.87 @ 138mph. Changed converter and pistons and I think we've only seen 135mph out of it this past season. The "looser" 8" converter has netted us much more consistent 60ft times and running low 10's keeps us legal. We're running an Indy intake topped with a 1050 dominator. CNC ported W5's by Ryan. Probe pistons, eagle rods/crank. Conservative roller cam and aftermarket main caps. We run exhaust on the car and it sounds like a wuss idling through the pits......just the way we like it. We had to tear the engine down after 50 passes due to a porous head. At that time we discovered that a number of the comp cam roller lifters had cracked, thus the early overhaul. We're currently running lifters from Brian at IMM Machine. The engine was happy all summer and we may throw the 9" converter back in next spring to play with it......or our 904 trans/9" set up.

Good luck with that cast crank!!

What cam did you use?
currently have a comp 20-717-9

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/17/10 02:29 AM

Shady Dell built pump gas 439", small chamber ported w5's, 10.7-1, bullet solid roller 272/276 @ .725, R3 siamese, Howards ultimate rods, K1 crank, Diamond pistons, TTI's, M1 intake (temporary) with Indy intake, and 1050 Dominator to go on. Will likely see a vacuum pump in spring. 660 HP at the moment- only to go higher...
No times yet- should be a mid-low 10 sec car with traction. All I know is with E70-14's on it's a handful, still lays rubber @ 80+ mph thru 3'rd gear and sounds sweet @ 7500.
GOOD STUFF!

Been looking for a set so I can join your club!

I had a few sets of the early W2's (back in like 78-or 9)...and I WISHED they were aluminum...does that get me honorary mention?

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/17/10 05:14 AM

What are your intentions with this thing- street/strip or drag only? pump gas or race gas?
Either way I wouldn't be using that cast crank - how many times do you want to build it?
The large plenum M1 is not the hot ticket for 360 cubes and as mentioned a 950 would be a better choice.
If your wanting max power there can only be 1 choice- solid roller- how high do you want to spin it?
Posted By: RAY1969CARS

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/17/10 06:21 AM

i would like to spin it to at least 7300 im thinking of a scat crank ? so u think the profrom 750 is too small??? plus i would like to get the most compression i can get out of the flat tops. it would be mostly used on the strip but car shows here and there ps race gas
Posted By: 72demon416

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/17/10 07:43 PM

Yes I think the 750 is too small...it will work but you'll be shorting yourself on power. Look at the post of my buildup- Ryan dyno'd mine with a 950 and 2 1050's and found 20 hp difference. Now I am temporarily running my old 825 Demon and it runs GREAT but is it down on power compared to what it should be? OH YEA!
Call the pro's on this board when your ready for a cam- you could get 50 different answers here and they all might be fine but you've got to pick somebody for that 1.

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/18/10 01:50 AM

Even our somewhat mild iron MP headed 360 liked the 960 BG carb we threw on it. That combo set a best of 10.91/92's. One thing I'm not overly comfortable with (on the W5) is the stock block we had access to. We just plain ran out of funds for a race block so did the best with what we had. Our 340 block is filled and does have aftermarket steel caps (two bolt). We're hoping it lasts. we also left some hp on the table in the cam dept as we didn't want a high maint valve spring eater.

Re: W-5 roll call ......! - 11/18/10 03:18 PM

Yeah just getting a set of heads for free can be a death sentence for your bank account. By the time you port them, and build the rest of the package around them so you can take advantage of how they work, it can get a little expensive. If I remember correctly we have about 9k into our build....and that started with a set of $800 used heads that were on an ARCA car out of michigan. Not a huge amount in this arena, but pretty good for our standards.

I have a set off my car I'd like to sell. Complete with valves, springs, sheetmetal tunnel ram, smith brothers pushrods, Harland Sharp 1.6 rockers. Only 40 passes on everything since new! I split the stock block in half and went to a race block and W9s. Car went 9.50s @ 2900lbs N/A 360 cubic inches. PM me if you are interested.

Of all those who posted combo's on this post, I did the heads for:

W5Duster364
W5Dart378
barryc
340RICK
greendart408
JBODY
DavidDean
72Demon416

Brian @ IMM (Ou812) could do good job for you in CA so you don't have to ship them cross Country. He is only one on west coast I'd recommend.

...our 5's went from Michigan to Arizona, to PA, to South Dakota, to PA, and back to SoDak. Should have got frequent flyer miles for them. Thanks again for a great set of heads Ryan. My dad is having a ball with that engine!
