Roots blower physical size and placement - 11/07/10 01:39 AM

How do you determine how big of a snout you need? Is it a one size fits all and you make up alignment issues with spacers or are they very specific to each engine? Can you use a blower that was on a small block chevy and put it on a small block mopar. I know that the intake is different, but the blower is still the same is it not? The more I get into this the more I realize I don't have a clue as to what is really needed.

big and sm block will be different i am sure.what do you have?what intake or other parts?or are you just starting and asking to know before hand?

Just starting and trying to make sure I know what I need. It could be very expensive if you don't know. I am looking at a small block setup, 360 magnum with an Indy intake. If you are wondering about the choice of intake, none of the blower retailers seem to have an intake for a 5.9.

if you use the stock harmonic ballincer you could put a streight adge on it going up to the intake level and measure back from there to where you want the snout mount on the blower.i have my blower here so i can measure the blower for you.BDS had some measurements on there site of all size blowers.

On some roots blowers that I'm familiar with, they make many different snout lengths so you can tailor it to your setup by changing the shaft and the snout housing.

I know dyersblowers.com sells a roots intake for small block LA mopar, you'd have to redrill if you have magnum heads. Only problem is their SB mopar intakes costs an arm, leg, kidney and your left lung!

Your not kidding on the price. They don't make one for a Magnum yet. I found one at INDY and it's $634. I can live with that.

the snout mount face is 5" from the #1 blower stud if that helps any now that you found an intake.

I think what I will have to do is pick up the intake and a blower minus the snout if I see a smoking deal on one. Then get my measurements and order a snout and pulleys.
Maybe even buy a complete setup and then sell what I can't use to help pay for what I do need. This is if I see a great deal on a used one.

I have been dealing with Good Vibrations out in California for my blower stuff. They are helpful, friendly, know their stuff, AND discount even BDS parts.

You can save 300 on that indy intake if you drill it for EFI yourself. It's a very nice piece, the runner entries are even bellmouthed a bit.
