Very nice.....the field has tightened up again, as Edwards and the Summit boys have seemed to found their power back as well....Allen has had the power all year long, had some bad luck and chasing tune ups, or he we be doing even better. I wish they could get Vinnies car on par with Allens, but thats also probably one fo the reasons Allen is making strides, using that as test data. Pro Stock technology is amazing.

Way to go, AJ!!

BTW...Wonder what body all the GM guys are gonna run next year? Pontiac is defunct since 2008...going on 3 years? and Chevy no longer makes the Cobalt. maybe they'll run the Volt

Or maybe GM doesn't care any more. I know Bickel is developing a Camaro (pretty much on his own dime) but compared to the bullet shaped GXP anything they do to that body is going to be a let down

I'd like to see a ford fusion Pro stock, I'll bet it's got much better aero than the Mustang, they could paint it like the old Tijuana Taxi

GXP and Cobalt are good until at least 2013.

GO AJ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Slant,

Yeah I get that but if things were Healthy in the sport the Mfg's would always want (and be pushing for) their newest offerings out front and center...doesn't say much for the NHRA or GM to have cars (let alone BRANDS) that haven't even been sold for 3 model years out on the track representing the "premiere" class of doorslammers, it's just not a real positive or upbeat message going forward, ya know?

When we get to that point we might as well all go to throwback cars like Pro Mod and run whatever you want, heck maybe that's not a bad idea!

It will be a 16 car field..they changed qualify a few years ago ...usually friday night was the fastest session..and if you made a bad run you would not get in the show..so the top 12 keep their times after friday night...the remainder start over and try to get into the last 4 slots..
this works if the weather is hotter on saturday..but if the weather is cooler..they can bump up into the field and the top 12 can still get bumped out..

this morning session in vegas should be faster then yesterdays...somewhat overcast and about 5 degrees cooler

Cool ...and THX .. but isn't Friday nite most-always the fastest?

Allen Johnson ran a 2 door Neon for 4-5 years after they quit making 2 door Neons didn't he? Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do.

I'd like to see them use new Challenger/Camaro/Mustang bodies, but then the Mopars would be back to sucking hind teat again. They have let the Mustang do a pretty good "redesign" now and it's still a pig compared to the other bodies in use.

Re: Vegas Nationals.Pro Stock-4th QUALIFYING..RESULTS. - 10/31/10 02:37 AM

I'll tell ya, the most impressive guy this year, not for his race results, but for his advancement enginewise has to be V Gaines. He started his own program not that long ago, and has really really made some serious strides in what would be considered a short time. He's been creeping up under the radar....good to see some Mopars doing us proud.

Larry Morgan is moving right along as well. I got to see some Ford Pro Stock Hemi heads the other day for a Comp Eliminator car ( long story, dont ask) and they look like a large sized cat could be thrown thru the ports of those things.( and come out un-scathed) 2.500 valves, way way way over 540 cfm of flow....meow..

Why would the Challenger be so bad against Camaros and Mustangs? From a manufacture point of view, it makes sense. People aren't inspired to buy an Escort because of a pro stocker. It makes sense to expect some return on investment. I'd push for current muscle car bodies.

Hope for a MOpar win,but i am rooting for Edwards to win the chanpionship. However he is in tough against Stanfield in the first round,Stanfield almost assuredly will take the light and Anderson will not lose to his teammate Brogdon in the first round. Luck of the draw ,i guess.

Ever see a Challenger/Camaro/Mustang side by side? A Challenger is huge compared to the other 2. In a class where every .001 counts they would be giving away .05 at least.

Guess you never looked at the P/S truck. same scenario. Dodge Dakota had to put out a whole bunch more power to get the truck down the track at the same or better ET than the brand Xer's

Guess you don't have a good memory of the P/S truck class. Until Ma Mopar let them downsize the Dakota to the same scale as the S-10's it was an all Chevy class. Dodge's did OK the first year when they had qualifying spots for all makes. After that they were also-rans until the small body and new motors.

Re: Las Vegas Nationals... Pro Stock-- QUALIFYING..RESULTS. - 11/01/10 01:11 AM

Yea, I've seen them side by side. Can't say I noticed any big difference. To prevent such pissing-matches, I'd imagine, like NHRA offered Dodge with the P/S trucks (Dodge didn't accept) they would be granted equal frontal area. With that being the case, the mustang could possibly benefit as it's the only real fastback in the crowd.
Posted By: moeflo

Re: Las Vegas Nationals... Pro Stock-- QUALIFYING..RESULTS. - 11/01/10 01:43 AM

All I found for stockers is the Challenger has a better drag coefficient, but the frontal areas of each would need to be known.
Challenger is listed at two different sites as .25
Camaro is listed in two places as .35 and .36
