1 year ago I had surgery for cancer - 10/05/10 03:46 PM

Last year I found out I had prostate cancer and I had surgery to remove all the cancer in Oct. 2009.
It has been and will continue to be a life changing event. I now spend more time with family which means less time racing and less time at work (no overtime). It's a shame it takes something so drastic to wake you up and see what you have been missing such as Grand kids growing up, spending valuable time with my daughter and son in law and doing things with my wife other than racing.
I did manage to take the car out a couple times this year and ran a 8.95 @ 149 which was a new best but the car has now sat for months and I have no regrets about that.
This week I got my 1 year blood test back and it showed negative.
I thank God for a 2nd chance at life.

Congrats to you too! Was in your spot 2 years ago. Went with the "seeds" ( so my wife could find it easier in the dark ). Good to go too now with PSA #'s in the .01 range now. If I could only get my RT #'s that low - - -

Congrats on the clean bill of health. I have seen first hand the changes it makes in peoples lives who have had to endure cancer and the effects to those around them. Way to keep your priorities in order.

find it easier in the dark Now that's funny, lol.
I almost did the seeds but the doc said the result would be the same in the end so I had it removed.

Re: 1 year ago I had surgery for cancer - 10/06/10 01:51 AM

This is great news to me and I am a complete stranger , so I can imagine how your friends and family feel.
I HATE cancer with a venom I cannot fully describe on these forums due to language restrictions , but trust me........every third word begins with an "F".
When it ends badly , it rips life as you know it apart.
So I really enjoy hearing / reading stories that have positive outcomes.
Congrats to all of you who have beaten this disease down.
May you all enjoy continued health and happiness.

That's great news. I am a cancer survivor of 27 years. Each year will get easier. Good luck. Every day I have both feet above the ground it is a blessing. As you are now doing, I race for the fun of it and my family likes to participate. I will never take it to seriously but it is fun to get together with friends and family.

Re: 1 year ago I had surgery for cancer - 10/06/10 05:25 AM

Congratulations Jim!!! Hope you stay cancer -free for the rest of your life! I just completed chemotherapy in July for Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma! I had EXCELLENT results with my treatments..brought my blood counts back to a near-normal range! Not perfect, but pretty good! Unfortunately, mine is not curable..but can be controlled to a certain degree with treatments! I,too have a different attitude on life since my diagnosis, almost 3 yrs. ago! Positive attitude plays a huge part in how you feel, not only mentally, but physically as well! I wish You the BEST in the future!!! Sincerely, Randy Borawski. BTW..VERY NICE CHEVELLE!
