World hemi block oilseal retainer problem - 09/21/10 09:51 AM

Hi, has anyone had problems with the oil seal retainer alignment on World Aluminium hemi blocks?
I have one with major misalignment, anyone got any thoughts on a fix for this? One side is sort of OK but the other side is way out. The problem is in the block, the seal retainer is made pretty much symetrical.

ya. i got that also and posted a picture of it a couple a months ago. the grove is fine like you said. i have'nt measured to see if it's a concern or not of it coming close to the crank shaft. my alum block also had the rear main cap not come in contact with the register on one side by .025. i made my own shim to fill in the void. these problems are total bulshit as for the money paid. my money to them was 100% good, cant say the same for the block, i work for a machine shop and we have a quality control room. parts that are not 100% get a rejected tag. world must not know about that process. by the way check your main studs if you dont know about that bullshyt also. i got two arp and the rest were there cheapo ones.

I'd recommend putting a stock seal retainer on it just to be sure it's not in the retainer itself.

If it's in the block then the main bearing bores have issues, possibly crooked.

You would be lucky to not have a constant rear seal leak.

If it's in the block and it were mine I'd be sending it back

Just a thought but on stock blocks the main registers, mains and seal retainer are all offset from the main bore - probably to avoid any chances of putting things together wrong on the assembly line or on future rebuilds. I'm guessing the world block is made with everything centered to the main bore.

Feel blessed your seal retainer actually fits n between the side walls of a World block. You ought to have seen the last World block I had. The retainer wouldnt even fit the block. I had to change the retainer to an Indy style and use silicone instead of side seals. The block wasnt even machined properly for their OWN retainer. More of their quality contorl. Good luck to you.

I've heard of this before and have a few questions:

1. Was the block purchased from Chrysler, or from
World Products?

2. If purchased from Chrysler, is the paperwork
(receipt or invoice) available?

3. What is the serial number?

Post or PM is ok.

Thanks!

Zippy, The block is mine, my engine builder posted the pictures to get some feedback.
The block was purchased direct from World Products and we have already machined it here in Australia (not expecting to have to deal with crap like this)!
I will try a factory retainer and see if it fits better.
And yes I have a set of ARP main studs on the way

If it were purchased from Chrysler, I'm confident I could help out directly.

Serial number would still help, to give an idea when it was machined.
