Mirada race parts - 08/26/10 02:46 PM

I have gotten the urge to do a Mirada race car. Does anyone make aftermarket front suspension for them, glass hoods , bumpers etc. I can't find anything on them anyhwhere. Any help is appreciated.

Reilly Motorsports (AlterKation) has a REAL nice front suspension/steering/brake package for the J-bodies. It's a little expensive, but the workmanship is excellent. Also, I have a disassembled 1980 Chryler Cordoba LS (same body as the Mirada). If you need any parts, PM me.

Thanks, I have 2 complete cars so I shouldn't need any parts but you never know. I'm glad someone makes the front-end kit. Now if I can get glass parts I may pull the trigger on this project. What are these things as far as weight, gutted with say a 12 pt cage, BB, 727, race front-end, race brakes, race wheels etc.

Try to contact Bubba (moparts member) about his Mirada. It had a 500" big block and ran in the 9.50 range. He can probably tell you anything you need to know about building one of these as a fast bracket car.

Chuck Millen of Best Machine had previously owned Bubba's Mirada. Not sure if he or another previous owner had done most of the race mod's to it but it had changed hands through a few folks in it's history prior to Bubba taking the wheel.

Probably one of the hottest Mirada's I've seen yet. There is another Moparts member in AZ that has an RB powered white J-body that runs very well too.

VFN Fiberglass sells the front clip, deck lid and rear panel for the 80-84 Mirada/Cordoba.

I believe I was the creator of that weird project.Nothing much to it,nothing wrong with that front suspension,Bubba went 9.50's I and street raced it for years running low 10's @ 133+. Not a ton of cool parts needed , just depends on your wallet depth.3400# pretty easy without any fiberglass and a iron 440.Pwr windows.

If you plan on running a small block, the Hedman Husler headers DO NOT FIT!!! They are build for the F,J,M Bodies, but there is no way they will fit with our a rack and pinion steering. lol. There is plenty of room to make them work, but number one tube hits EVERYTHING.

Thanks for all the help I'm just glad there are parts avaible, just got to ask at the right places. If I do this it will have my BB turbo set-up in it. I think it would be sweet with my turbo hanging out the front grille.

Just a FYI ...

Art FG is just a seller of VFN stuff.

And most of the stuff that VFN makes is not a big weight-saver uNless you order(and pay for) the liteweight parts.

Beware.

The member in Arizona is Jay Waxler and I think he went by JBody or J-Body. The car, as I recall it, was all steel, fairly well gutted interior, lightened as much as he could get it, ran a RB/727 combo, and was running in the low 10's at Speedworld. I have not seen any activity from Jay on this board in at least 18 months so hope everything is OK out there.

Jay still posts here. He just posted the other day on one of Gregsdarts posts. BTW says he is going to get his car out before the end of 2010. He has had other priorities in life lately, family first which is how it should be.

Would love to have his car as I have always liked it. he still has power windows in it. Ladder bar car that works very well. He came up here a few yeas ago and went a string of 10.0's.

My Cordoba was a total street car, stereo, sound deadener, PW PS PB tilt etc etc
With a 440, 727 and 8 3/4 rear it weighed 3550 pounds with NO driver....

Re: Mirada race parts - 08/29/10 06:33 AM

Last time I crossed the scales at a PSCA race the car was at 3280 with me in it (185). Didn't spend a great deal of time trying to make it lighter, but did the basics. One seat, front bumper and all supports gone, heater box gone..... that's about all that comes to mind. I do have a full mild steel cage and would lose quite a bit of weight if the aforementioned power windows were removed, but living in the desert you find great relief dropping the glass in the shutdown area. Same Stage VI RB engine for 15+ years (third and final freshen). Killer Lofgren trans (had it updated at Pro Trans 15 passes ago....in 2008 ), great working Comp Chassis ladder set up. Change the oil, add fuel, flog. It's been a fun can and it's been in the family since 84. Run 10.2 to 10.4 in Vegas, but as Al mentioned... went 10.0 all day long in Sacramento. If I resist buying a 2000 Buell Cyclone next week the car will hit the track this year!
