Re: new car excellent home for the R5 small block - 08/09/10 02:15 AM
That was an awesome deal you were offering.
Mopar racers again are their own worst enemy. A deal of a lifetime shows up and they refuse to take advantage. Glad to call and offer you less. But, beat the door down on a machine shop claiming to be Mopar faithfull who will screw their eyeballs out. Where do they get this from don't see any new truck owners selling brand new 3500 Dodge pickups for $15K. So why should a guy have to give away engine combos?

Only for non-OE scoops. If there's anything A-body that's forward facing it's legal with no penalty.

yes it gets sissy sticks so base weight will be 2950
only problem with the factory scoops they are all to short need atleast a 6" cowl to have enough clearance for the carb with my tunnel ram
i dont think a areo scoop would be worth the extra 50 lbs. VS sealing a cowl scoop the correct way.

not a big fan of alum. interior
car was pretty light when it had the mild steel cage and stock suspension and brakes with a Hog Leg in it. 2800 lbs.
now with a moly cage / tube front end / ladder bars / light weight brakes on all 4 corners / and a few more peices of fiber glass and a small block
what better way to add a little weight and make it a fully functionable street car
i mounted up my DOT's on my spare 12 inch wheels

So Bob, now that you've done a 25.5 A body, what is the ball park figure someone would be looking at to do one assuming there wasn't any sort of roll bar in there already. Also, let's say I have 2x3 through the floor frame connectors in the car already, do they need to come out and changed to round tube or can they be retained?
I'm not looking for a quote ( to broke right now anyway )but just some knowledge for possible future plans.
Thanks
Looks awesome!

Very nice work as always, Bob! Made me wonder tho, why you didn't run the A-pillar bars into the corners of the dash, which would have allowed for placing the dash bar through the dash. That would have made getting in and out of the car easier. Not a criticism, just an observation.

From memory the 2 x 3" through the floor will still be usable, I would have to check my specs to be sure. It does depend on other things also

yes 2x3 is fine for a 25.5 cert. thats whats in this car.
if you have stock floor and trans tunnel you dont need the triangle floor bars or the center X either

Spray painting a full cage sucks, too easy to bump into the wet paint when you're crawling around it!

Looking good Bob. I like the black cage better then the silver. I think they look better when they "blend" in with the rest of the interior. As if you can have a 25.5 cage blend LOL.

yes its for the rear of the wing.
Jeff will bend the tabs on a 90 degree and they will bolt to the bottom side of the rear part of the wing and the wicker bolts to them
with the double holes you see on the wicker and the tabs (3 different positions)will allow me to adjust the height of how high i want the wicker sticking past the top of the wing for less or more down force

SWEET !
cant wait to see it in person
im sure with all stainless button heads and no rivets anywhere really tops it off
it will look sweet with the factory carpet and it finished off all along the floors and front kick panels done in that black alum.
now get them inner fenders done
thanks again Jeff

Re: new car excellent home for the R5 small block - 10/20/10 02:50 AM
im planning on doing the paint work like my Demon
it will get the black out treatment on the hood and tops of fenders in the textured orgasol black with satin side stripes same as my Demon.
but i still having decide if i will do the bumpers and rear spoilers in black also or body color
what do you guys think ?

body color

Re: new car excellent home for the R5 small block - 10/20/10 12:26 PM
Tin work looks excellent! I like orgazmic(spelling?) black too! I think the frt. bumper would look good in that color too.

Body color or metallic silver.
Mine are silver but will be chrome someday.

Re: new car excellent home for the R5 small block - 10/21/10 12:39 AM
i think i will do the bumpers body color when i spray the trunk lid.
but not sure on the wing ?
i planned on powder coating the wing black satin to match the stripes
i think leaving it raw alum. look or polish will stand out to much
the inner fenders im thinking of doing them in the black to match the hood and cowl area or powder coat them black wrinkle, also the front spoiler in the black.
im looking for a stealth look
with this car instead of polishing ever thing i can like the Demon is
every thing (brackets) i can pull off the engine compartment will be powder coated black wrinkle to match the motor.

Go with that Bob
You are on the right track
Bumpers blue
spoiler match stripes
inner fenders match engine

Jeff,
That's pretty slick looking!
On an unrelated topic,is there enough room to drop the steering column down far enough to clear the studs and remove it with the dash bar in there?
I know you did not build that cage,It just looks like it could be an issue.

Can always cut the studs down, or remove, but if I had to guess it probably has something other than factory mounting under there.

Re: new car excellent home for the R5 small block - 10/24/10 03:21 AM
Yes when Bob built it he left just enough room to take it out.I had to lower it down to fit the in cert in all 28 times till it was right.

Re: new car excellent home for the R5 small block - 10/24/10 03:34 AM
Okay, that's what I was wondering.I thought he might need to move it to get the gauges in.I guess a guy could remove the wheel if he had to.
28 times? You must be getting quick in your old age,it would have taken me 50,and would not look that nice!

yes the column will slide right out
and the steering wheel is a quick disconnect
thanks for posting pics
its coming together so much better than i thought it would when i first bought it from Brian,(i was going to put the motor in and that was it)
i didnt think i would take it this far, but im glad i'am

yes trying to keep some air out and make it look cleaner
cant wait to see it with inner fenders
i would like to try and seal the complete grille off and make back to back passes with it also to see if there is any gain their also, thats what duck tape and card boards for
these old cars dont have the best areo
i was also thinking of sealing the rear under neath off behind the rear end also with alum back to the bumper to get the wind out better and not ketch on the rear pan and bumper
