Mopars have done well at this event in the past.

A quick review of the track website's archive pages find that...

In 2009, Dennis Garrett's 1975 Dart Sport was the $$$ Class runner-up.

In 2008, the 1/4 mile trophy class had an all Mopar final with Frank Bremenour's 1934 Plymouth and Daniel Imhoff's 1965 Dodge Coronet.

In 2007, Andrew Dombroski took the Friday Gambler Race win in his GTX and Larry Prykan took the Saturday trophy class win in his 1966 Satellite.

Why is this race only 1/8 mile?

It isn't "only 1/8th mile".

Friday's optional "gambler race" eliminator is 1/4 mile only.

Saturday's and Sunday's money class is 1/8th mile while both of those day's trophy class is 1/4 mile.

For the racers, there are several positive things that this change in the money class offers.

Moving that class to 1/8th mile allows significantly more cars to be able to meet the expanded ET break. It accomplishes this without creating huge handicap spots and trap speed differences.

It also doesn't force guys who have their cars set-up for the area's "1/8th mile only" tracks at Pacemakers and Magnolia (or D42's Mod point racers who are set-up for the IHRA Bracket Finals which will be run 1/8th mile this year) to switch gearing or have their machine's tongue hanging out every run.

As a bonus for guys who like to race all they can, cars between 12.00 and 17.50-ish on the 1/4 mile can run both the money and trophy classes if they wish. In the past, the ET breaks for the money class and the trophy class didn't have much (if any, at all) of an overlap.

Tech ready Does it have a steering wheel and four tires
It does sound like fun though and I do need a 1/4 mile time slip to see what it will run before the stick race at the Nats so the Sunday trophy race might be the ticket

Alot less oil downs with the quicker cars... thats
why they still have the slower classes on the 1/4

Oops, I should have elaborated, if I bring my car there on Saturday or Sunday it will be 'only 1/8 mile'. This event looks like a blast and I've always wanted to go but I'll be at Thompson that weekend running the Heads-up Asphalt Wars event.

Gus you won't be able to run that trophy class with your new motor unless you pull a couple spark plug wires.

Yeah Bob I figure I might a few TT's in before Jack holds out his hand for mo-money to get into the other classes.

Just a little over 2 days until the start of the event.

My son is home on leave from the Navy this weekend and will be wheeling a 67 Plymouth Satellite on Friday and Saturday.

..yea i saw brian's post over on dragraceresults.com about wanting to race while home on leave.. so i dropped him a line and offered him my car for fri and sat...i told him it wasn't very fast but it's a good dependable race car. i've wanted to hit this race for the last few years and always have something else going..so this year we'll be racing. hope brian fits in the car ok ..his a little taller than me but i think we'll be ok. i've never seen my car go down the track so that will be pretty cool too. looking forward to the weekend and hope to see alot of you there.

I've never been up that way but since I have no kids this weekend it sounds like fun. Do they allow camping at the track? The forcast sure looks brutal though Hot and Humid 93 Fri and 92 Sat.

Yes, the track offers camping at no additional cost.

It also has free shower facilities in the new permanent restrooms that were built a couple of seasons ago, but they could be crowded if the turnout from the past few year's Rock and Race events is repeated.

The first 2 days will be the warmest of any "Rock and Race" weekend, but will be similar to last weekend's event which was certainly tolerable.

It sure makes you appreciate the grassy pits and shade trees at Dragway 42.

Imagine putting up with these temps on one of the "blacktop, blacktop... nothing but blacktop" facilities.

Latest forecast for Sunday shows highs in the 70s.

Re: Pair of $1K To Wins - D42's Rock&Race Nostalgia Wee - 07/25/10 01:57 AM

Its been a HOT one there for sure. A couple of Storms passed thru today but they still got down to 4 cars before the big storm hit. Despite being 95 degrees the track has been pretty good. The roadster was running 6.42 with 1.38 60fts all day once I figured out the burnout box - made it to the 4th round today hopefully I can find some luck tomorrow and go a few more rounds. Its a nice track for 1/8th mile racing. Should be nice tommorrow only 79

Just watch out for the Amish Buggies. Coming over the hills to find a buggy when towing sure gets your attenion in a hurry.

Finals in Saturday's 1/4 mi Trophy class (which will get run during Sunday's time trials) includes Daniel Imhoff's 65 Coronet.

My son was one of the final 4 left in the money class, driving Alan Cox's 67 Satellite. Rather than try to slide 2 rounds of eliminations in during tomorrow's time trials, the track paid $375 to each of the 4 remaining machines (the combined Win, RU, and Semi money divided by 4) on a split for today's money class eliminator.

Sunday will see another 12.00-up 1/4 mile trophy class and 0-10.99 1/8th mile $1000 to win race plus more nitro nostalgia funny cars, the burnout contest, and more!
