I agree. The 660's were designed back when there was no such thing as a doublepumper carb and tunnelrams were the size of mailboxes. The fast cars that used 660's required extensive carb mods that are not needed with the DP's.

If you have 'em or can get reasonable, not bad choice.
Work ok for my 451 but havent tried bigger either.
more than enough power and the price was right.

Re: Tunnelram 440 - 07/07/10 03:43 PM

I've had 625 Carters, 600 vac. sec.s, 750 vac. sec.s, and now just put a set of worked 660's on mine. Haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but the 600's sucked big time, 750's didn't work well either. The 625's worked nice. Now like I said the 660's haven't been run much yet. As yoy can see in the picture, they are really worked over. Throttle response seems good, but like I said I really haven't driven it much yet. Let alone run it at the strip.

No...Because there is only one squirter per carb. Its really not enough fuel shot with that much plenum volume to get the car moving without stumbling a little. You would be far better off with a single plane and just a double pumper. The old school crap can work, but not like the modern annular carbs with all the jettable air bleeds and such. If you do it, you will wish later you had spent the few extra bucks for real carbs instead of buying them twice.

with all due respect, i can make the 660's work without a lot of hassle. but, i do prefer a set of 750's

The 2 750 dp carbs will work great.Mill choke air horns off, block off power valves sq jet # 80 and you will have it close.
The Tunnel-Ram maybe o'll school but its faster.
I found out the Hard Way the Trick of the week stuff never works. Unless your have extra $$$ to throw away.

I guess i will be the oddball one. I will be using 2 carter comp 750 carbs on my 440.I know everybody does not like them. but i went 10.50 at 127 in my old 3500 pound 11.1 compression 440 powered 65 Plymouth and they were box stock.I would love to try some 750 dp on my car but i don't have the money to switch everything over to Holley. I say if you already have the 660 to give them a try. best of luck Mopar65

Re: Tunnelram 440 - 07/07/10 11:24 PM

anyone here that says the 660 center squirters wont work, either hasnt run any or has poor tuning skills period.
They work, and work well.
I will say they arent much for tuning, and jetting alone doesnt help much. But they work near best right OOTB or factory specs.

Re: Tunnelram 440 - 07/07/10 11:46 PM

I ran a set of 660 center squirts on my 452 RB for years. They were done by Chuck Nuytten. I had them on a 3400 lb. Super Bee, a 2200 lb. 33 Ford 5 window coupe and a 1900 lb dragster. In all the years I ran those carbs I didnt change the jetting in them more than 3 or 4 times and after I changed it I came right back to where it had been when I started.

A friend of mine ran 9.60's with a 316 SBC with a pair of 660's in a 3,100lb Nova. I'd say they work

Re: Tunnelram 440 - 07/10/10 08:38 PM

I'm running a pair of 600 vac secondary carbs. They drive really nice and milage isnt bad but they do have a slight bog at the strip. I have to stall 2400 rpm or more so it doesnt bog. I'm switching to a pair of 650's DP with proform main bodys. I hope they will work good.

Re: Tunnelram 440 - 07/11/10 01:21 AM

You don't need anything special. Two universal 750 double pumpers set up will work just fine.

My brother runs two 750 dps on a std stroke 440.

He has run 10.7 @125.5 on pump fuel at 3700 lbs.

He still runs a std water pump and mechanical fan.

Re: Tunnelram 440 - 07/11/10 01:56 AM

I just finished up testing some tunnel rams on my 505 motor. I used a pair of Edelbrock 500 cfm carbs. Those carbs sure worked nice on the tunnel rams I ran. They idled really nice and pulled hard all the way to 6500 rpm.

I am curious what is considered a good price for a set of 660 center squirters? What is a good price for 750 DP? Just starting to shop and wanted to be prepared.

Re: Tunnelram 440 - 07/12/10 04:52 PM

I paid $850 for my set of 660's. They don't look like 660's any more.
