4150-4500 gains? - 01/11/08 08:21 PM

i currently run a 1025 race demon RS on my 400/512 combo, would i get a big gain if i fitted a 1050 dominator or would it be nominal? also in the past month 2 people i've talked to about carbs say you can get dominator carbs on a 4150 base?? i've done some nett surfing but can't find any info on this set up. is there such a carb or have these boys been smoking something thats stronger than the govt allows?? lastly if i was to change to a 4500 flange carb, are those promax adaptors the way to go? someone posted a pic of one of these adaptors the other week & they really look the part.

That might be hard to say, but if you were upping
the revs I would say yes. What do you have for a
manifold, if you feel you need more plenum then it
would benifit with the adaptor, gives added plenum
volume that most people dont add when they stroke
their engines. Remember that most manifolds are
designed for a stock ci engine or slightly more ci

Yes and maybe... Yes, I very rarely use a 4150 on larger ci engine, never see them out perform a 4500.. Maybe, it will see gains w/ a 4150 to 4500 adapter, don't do that often anymore, I always use a 4500 manifold if at all possible, but when there wasn't much to choose from as far as manifolds, I think only a couple times did I not pick up w/ the adapter.

Even the bigger street stuff we build always gets a 4500. The 383/496 we just did got a 4500 and its a pure street car.

are you sure you are sure on that?
so no comment on 4150 dommys so i guess these guys are talking thru a hole in their heads huh? i've got the 400 indy manifold & its been matched to my junk -1 heads so i'm not wanting to part with it just yet, hence the promax adaptor, it looks like its a plastic unit so it would insulate the carb from the heat. i'll try & borrow a dommy first before i outlay my hard earned $$"s, the promax adaptor i could flick off if i dont see any marked improvements. thanks for the feedback.

I am also adding a 1050 Dominator and adapter to my 505 stroker motor. I ran the 505 with an 850 dp on it for the last 2 years. With a best of 9.45 et. Shifting at 6100 rpm, and crossing the traps at 6500rpm. I am hoping for a tenth or 2 increase in et??Do you think the Dominator will help??

Haven't heard of that, but QuickFuel, IIRC, offers 4150 carbs w/ 4500 bolt patterns... or something odd like that.

I believe they are building 1050 cfm carb's out of 4150's both Quick-Fuel and Promax.

i had my demon fitted out in the 1050 combo but it ran like diaherra, when i spoke to scott? at demon carbs he told me i had the wrong combo & to make it into a 1025. he even sent me all the parts at no cost, which is totally unbelievable for a US company to do something like this to me living on the other side of the globe. the 1025 venturies have .040 more venturie effect & the carb is very well mannered compared to the 1050 even tho theres only 25 cfm in it. hence the reason i'm contemplating a dommy to gain the extra cfm if it will make my combo run stronger.

I'm gonna go out on a limb.. Use a NICE piece like a Pro-Systems 4500 and I would BET that you will see a gain. Did I tell you I am a dealer, but go where ya want for it cause not much there to make.

I changed a TM7 intake with a 950HP carb. to a M1 4500 intake with a 1050 Dominator at the track and the car pick up .15 ET and 3 MPH with no tuning changes. That combo went .3 and 4 mph better with tuning., squirters help when they are the right size I have changed 1050 Dominators at the track from a 9375 with all stock jets and squirters to a 8896 with stock stuff and saw a .13 loss and 1/4 mph loss, switch back and the ET and MPH came back

checked Pro Systems web site. they kinda look like Quick Fuel units. are both of these of similar quality? as the speed shop rep i deal with cuts me awesome deals & he sells Quick Fuel carbs & its cheaper for me to buy this kinda thing from him than import myself.

have a qf an 1050 4150 on my 499 dart went 126 mph last time out with broken posi unit 1.7 60 ft 10.73. installed a spool. & testing 4500 dommy with adapter sat. nite no other changes. will post results

Rebel, you got 512 CID and an Indy single plane intake. What size cam, CR, ET/mph and rpm do you run? If the rest matches the race theme, I think you will benefit. But I don't have any feel for the Demon RS carb.

Although I think QuickFuel makes some good stuff I have never seen anyone compare them back to back, I know the Pro Systems carbs work well.

That is close to my 511 setup but I pull a few hundred more rpm, I think you will benefit. I did some back to back runs at Norwalk in 2006 switching to the 10.00 class (trying to slow my car down). I took off my well tuned 1150 Dominator with 4150/4500 adaptor, and bolted on a good working, but not tuned (likely rich), 950hp with no spacer. The car slowed down 0.2 seconds in the 1/4 mile.

I think there were a couple factors to get that much, but 500+ CID race combos like more carb:
  • 1) The adapter was like a big carb spacer, helping this combo. So a 1 or 2 inch spacer with the 4150 would narrow the difference.
  • 2) The 950hp carb was likely too rich, slowing it a little more.

Another comparison on a different day/track I swapped my Holley 1150 with a friend's ProSystems 1050 for back to back comparison. I ran the same with his carb, and his 499 ran the same with my carb. No difference, except a slight A/F ratio difference on my LM-1 meter.

dominator is the way to go.........never seen a loss even on a relatively mild combo.id say tenth minimum probably 2 and 3or so mph on average gain.

I dont know how much steam you big block is making but on my high 9's smallblock i used to run that 1025RS carb. It worked awesome.


One night i took it off and put a pro systems prepped 1000 4150 carb on the car and it knocked better than a 1/10 out of it. I put my new 1100 pro systems dominator on it and it did no more than match the 1025rs, as i had just bought it looking for a gain, i sold the 1025rs i had for everal years and continue to run the 1100 dominator to this day.

Long story short, a trick 1000 hp slowed me down, a trick 1100 dominator MATCHED the 1025 race demon...this all on the same night testing at the track

I would be interested to know what issues you had with the 1050 race demon RS.

I run a 440/541 stroker with the Race Demon 1050 RS, it took a-lot of effort to get it running right (very rich out of the box, particularly up top). Im hesitant to go smaller as it pulls 1.6in HG vacuum @6200rpm.

Wass up Eddie...........? Dominators flat out work in the right application and my 8082-3 2 circuit runs and idles great on my OFTEN driven street car.
