Re: COMP CAMS SUCKS!!! - 06/29/10 02:48 PM

I called and wanted them to fax me my cam card. Waited for ever also, then got this snot nosed smart AZZ who accually gave me a hard time for losing it. I gave him a piece of my mind, and asked for someone who wanted to earn a paycheck. Then he got really polite.

NOT impressed but love the cam I have.

Tim is the man! (Well, at least in customer service) we'll see how his cam runs Friday night!

I called Comp, got tired of waiting on hold...called back the next day. Was told none of the shelf Mopar grinds I wanted were in stock. When I made a comment about that I was told "Your fault for not having a Chevy". Gimme a break.

Next called Racer Brown. Jim SEEMED like he was on the ball. Was going to grind the cam "next week" and send me an email to confirm shipping. The 2nd week I called and was told "early next week" which was the same answer I got for THREE MORE WEEKS.

Called Bullet on a Friday, was told my cam would be ground on Monday and should be out on Tuesday. Got a call from Tim on Tuesday saying it was on the way, with a tracking number. They didn't even ding my debit card until WEDNESDAY!

I like giving my money to vendors who (at least act like they) care and know the VALUE of customer SERVICE

Bullet made me a custom cam for my stroke 419. I wanted a lot of special stuff.
They hooked me up with exactly what i needed to utilize a small block with a lot of cubes.
This was 2 years ago before everyone started doing this.

plus they did it very quickly, less than a week.and it was affordable.

This is why I only talk the engine builder I buy the product from. You only get a generic answer from someone that doesn't know your combination or intended usage when you call a big company.

I liked the Comp Cams help line. They told me exactly who made their pushrods (Trend) and their pushrod manufacturer (Trend) was VERY helpful and provided a quality product. <---- note, I like Trend, I hope you can read the sarcasm otherwise.

Soooo.....what did you do with the Racer Brown Cam? Sorry to see you had a bad experience w/ Racer Brown. It only took 3 weeks for mine, and after experiencing the performance increase, I would have waited 6 months.

And by the way, Comp Cams tech line does apply vacuum to the aftmost mammary.

Re: COMP CAMS SUCK!!! - 06/30/10 01:21 PM

Your better off dealing with an engine builder rather than a cam guy. IMO, they do a poor job of CAMMING an engine. They know more about the dynamic side of the cam and not as much about the ENGINE side.
Next time try calling an experienced ENGINE BUILDER and deal with them.

Mike, I'm not knocking you for calling Comp..I agree you should get much better service than that...but when you do this everyday you get to know the in's and out's of companies.
Try getting ANY service from MP! LOL!!

Welllllllll................I tried Comp tech today and quit waiting after 25+ minutes. Since this kind of wait doesn't seem that unusual for them, shouldn't they be able to give you some indication of the estimated wait time or number of callers ahead of you OR SOMETHING?

I will try them one more time (Lord knows why) and if I am left on hold like that this time ........ well, you know.

guess its who you know

Re: COMP CAMS SUCKS!!! - 07/01/10 02:52 PM

I think Comp cams are good for de tuning mopars unless you ask for a custom spec cam, the tech help are not mopar friendly at least for w5 small blocks, if you need specs for your combo the engine builders on this site are the guys to talk to, as far as the cust service at Comp its been hit or miss
Posted By: Mopar_Rich

Re: COMP CAMS SUCKS!!! - 07/01/10 04:11 PM

Well I have to step in here and do a little defending.

I've worked with Comp for years back when I owned Mopar Engines West, and I work with them every day now since they own FAST. Sure I have a back door into them because I'm a WD, but I must say that the people I work with are very experienced and very helpful. I spent a day there just looking at the equipment and talking to the development people. All good stuff.

When I had issues with either FAST components or an occasional problem with a spring or lifter they stood behind their product and took care of it.

When I design a cam for an EFI customer, I'll send an email with the desired specs (I usually select the lobe numbers too), follow it up with a phone call, and that cam will be in the mail in 2 to 3 days.

So as someone said before it's helps to know someone to get around the front-end customer phone lines, but once you get that relationship going, Comp is one of the best suppliers I work with.

Re: COMP CAMS SUCKS!!! - 07/01/10 05:02 PM

I misplaced one valve lock from Comp and it was my fault (the lock was later found stuck to a magnetic notepad clip that was on the bench). I contacted them and they sent me three of them. Then a week later, three more showed up. Then 2 weeks later, a couple more showed up. I have a hard time saying anything bad about a company who sends parts first and asks questions later.

Would I call Comp for a Mopar related parts recommendation? From past experience probably not, I don't want to use a 292H or 110 lobe separation in everything, and that's what they always say I should be using. However when I've had a little problem they stepped right up.

I rebuilt two second hand Edelbrock 600s for a dual quad setup, and the kits were missing the accelerator pump gaskets. I called Edelbrock, and the guy sent me 18 of them

Would I call Edelbrock for a Mopar related parts recommendation? From past experience probably not unless I wanted to use a Performer RPM cam and a 750 on everything.

82.4% of phone calls to Mopar Performance were answered within 300 seconds on the 29th. On the 30th, 100% of all phone calls were answered within 300 seconds. As far as taking care of customers, just ask user torkrules,
Muscle Motors, or Compuflow what their recent experiences have been.

Decent customer service does exist out there, luck plays into it also, however in this day and age nobody can really blow off customers because once they are gone, they most likely aren't coming back.
