It shows 100 at idle ( it was a really hot day ), mid run 145 and end of run 190 .

This is all pre methanol temperature numbers. My injectors are all down runner from the manifold air sensor.

The sensor is at the back of the manifold.

you run a standard adjustable wastegate or do you use any type of controller? i would think if it's allowed a wastegate controller would be standard on a car like that...nice workmanship and numbers

I'm sure he has a controller. It's the only way to get these "small tire" cars off of the starting line cleanly.

So what did you do to stop the head gasket blowing and torching the blocks?

Getting waaaay down there.. But I know you want more..

When I first put the engine together I used a Cometic gasket based of a standard BBD . This gasket has relief cuts encroaching into the firing ring seal to accommodate the in-line valve placement. The dowel pins on the heads are close to the bore when you get to 4.5" bores and consequently that zone has the greatest distance between head bolts.
I think a few small factors might of added up to a week zone for the cylinder preasure to escape and damage the block and cylinder head. ( no my dowel pins were not holding my head up )

You can see in the picture that even the dowel hole is in the sealing ring area. The physical properties of the gasket made failure only a matter of time ( actually a matter of preasure but time sounds more dramatic )

So its on to plan B

- more clamping force on the affected area
- remove dowels from beside the bore zone.
- physically hold the gasket in place with o-ring

Your car is very impressive! I like to see the old classic looking Iron fly like that instead of the stretched out carbon fiber replica looking cars doing it. Much more impressive IMO. Keep up the tuning and continue watching those numbers fall. Would be really cool to see you come to Norwalk for the CC events race in September to give a large number of board members the chance to see that monster in person.
