I think all R blocks use 360 pans(rear main wise)

Re: R-block question - 06/21/10 11:51 PM

They can come EITHER WAY! It is totally RANDOM! It just happend to be whatever main caps they have on hand at the time. The caps can be machined either way as far as the mains and seal on the ID.

Unless this has changed with the new generation blocks. I reccomend you wait till you get the block to make sure.

My 501 is the 48 deg, tall deck, R3 and it is a 340 pan. Large radius at both ends. I do believe I have had them both ways. I have had to return pans before because of this issue.

Re: R-block question - 06/22/10 12:00 AM

The reason in ask these questions is i just had my engine freshened and im ready to race then noticed a puddle on oil under car put it in the air and looked between bellhouseing and pan and saw it lightly spraying up near the rearmain/oilpan when running.doesnt leak when sitting and i have a race coming up need to fix asap and my engine builder is nowhere to be found so im in limbo of what seals in have.

Glad I read this, I assumed my R block used a 340 pan because it has 340 mains. I guess I'll go measure.

Re: R-block question - 06/22/10 02:23 AM

I have had several R blocks and looked at several dozen. Every one has been 360 pan except one. A little cutting in the mill and it was a 360 when done.

You can always run an adapter to use a 340 pan on a 360 cap.
