GOOD YEAR DRAG SLICKS??? - 06/06/10 06:42 PM

Does anyone use Goodyear bias-ply slicks in a D-3 compound? How do you like them? I've got a set coming in this week that I got a good deal on,brand new! Should improve my 1.56-1.58 60' times! What kind of pressures are you using on your heavier cars? The GTX w/driver weighs 3740 lbs. Thanks fella's! RandyB

Mine are a D-5 compound and I love them. I'm a little lighter than you are though and I think you made a good choice going with the D-3 based on what I've read about thier compounds.

Andrew,29"x 9" Old ones are 30"x 9"! I don't think 1" will make much difference in rpm's at the stripe! So...no one else runs a D-3 compound out there???

Cant help you Randy but I do use 30 x 9 Hoosier radial slicks. They do work nice and I love how well the radial slick handles on the top end. Ron

I hear ya Ron! The one's I just wore out were Good Year Radials, which I really liked,as well, because of the top-end stability! I just couldn't get them at a comparable price to the bias-ply! The new one's will be $125.00 each. Pretty fair price!

Always liked my Goodyears on the Cuda. They worked very well and never really went away much over the long term.

I recently made the switch to M/T and we will see what happens with them. So far so good. I did go quicker in the 60' than ever with them, but they are stiff sidewall and my GY's were not. I went to M/T becuase of the deal I got from M/T on the them, not becuase there were any issues with the Goodyears. I still have them with 30 passes on them.

I'd start at 13.5-14 and work your way up till it spin's I run a 28x11.5 and run as much as 15 on a cool day if needed (I adjust rear tires for reaction time) and my car probably weigh's in at 3300-3400 w/ me..... low air pressure does nothing but kill the sidewall's and slow you down!!! my car will hook on anything....if I'm in the grove LOL

My car is as heavy as yours. I used these slicks and they have been the best set I have tried to date. They hook forever, or mine did anyway. I ran between 14 and 15 psi in mine.

I'm using the M/T too with 107 passes they only have .009 wear looks like they will make it for this season N/P. How does your car drive when you come off the stop mine feels like it's doing the duck walk. Around 1000' starts to settle down

I was curious about the shelf life of Goodyear slicks. The 34 roadster I bought has a set of Goodyear 14.5 x 32's that look almost new but I know they are at least 5 years old. Whatcha guys think? I think I'm going to at least try them.

Not sure about the shelf life. On an earlier car (3200 lbs) the wear-hole meant something. On the last car (2400 lbs) the bite would go away and the wear holes were still very deep. This happened with G-Y, M/T and Hoosiers. The compound was gone before the rubber on the lighter car. Makes me skittish of used ones.

i can only tell you my personal experience. the sig car was purchased new and sat for MANY years because i got involved in racing bikes. then i finished the car ran it with a chevy that broke. then i sat again, i finally built an engine for it and ran it. the tires had to be over ten years old probably closer to 15 so i figured they just HAD to be bad. brought a new set of tires, made absolutely no difference.
