Look down the hole and see where its at... then use
a big screw driver... it'll only turn one way to come
out of the cam gear... just think in your head which
way you want to go... you might have to go 2 teeth
short of 1/2 way around

When you turn it out, like Mike suggests, you can start skipping teeth until you get it in the position you want. The firing order won't change, just the position of the intermediate shaft to the cam gear.

If you move the shaft you want to go in the direction
that you want to move the dist... if you move the
plug wires you go in the opposite dicrection, that
way you have to turn the dist back to get the timing
cant tell you which way to go because you didnt say
what engine... they turn opposite directions

Bring the motor up to TDC on #1, make the slot in the oil pump drive align with the cam and crankshaft. Asssemble and check the ignition timing, should be good to go Let us know your results

We set all of our wiresets with #1 being at 5 O'Clock. Like the factory. But if you set #1 at 7 o'clock, 3,5, and 7 are easily pointed to their side of the engine.. For what it's worth, our Mechanical Distributor has a much-smaller head. It's easier and has more room to spin for adjusting.
