Progress pics on the new paint job... - 05/11/10 06:16 PM

Here are some pics of the new paint job. Gonna be able to pick the car up tomorrow. Everything turned out pretty good except for the clashing gold wheels on the front. You can see the before in my sig pic. Its a huge change!

I liked the old paint job , but the new really works on that car. looks killer. ... just have the wheels powder coated silver to match.

I thought about having them powdercoated....can they powdercoat them to look shiny?

Nice looking paint job, like the blue & silver and graffics , yes the wheels did go along with the other paint colors, just another added expense to make your ride just right. Now to choose the next front wheels, There sure allot to choose from. The lightest ones are now the every body has them wheels.

Thanks for all the positive feedback! What do you guys think I should do about the front wheels? Powdercoat them? Leave them alone? Or????

On the wheels...remove the old color then polish them...then have them transparent powder coated....I had these wheels done on custom bike I built...they did the wheels and the triple trees...looked like green chrome in the sun..
click on the pics to make them bigger.

That looks really nice! Very tastefully done.
I do think it would look much better to remove the gold finish and polish them. It would go better with the paint scheme.

I think the gold wheels look good myself, but If you dont like em go to your local anodizer and have them striped(its cheep)while there, you could also get them anoed blue!!!

Take off the gold, go polished!

Re: Progress pics on the new paint job... - 05/12/10 05:01 PM

Thanks for all the ideas guys! There aren't any places close around that does powdercoating or anodizing so I think I will experiment with taking the gold off and polishing them to see what that looks like. I will work on the backside of one of them first and see how it comes out. I guess I should just use a normal aluminum wheel polish after I get the gold off??

Yes they would wouldn't they?! Until you look at that price tag!!!! Yikes...$770 for each wheel! I think I will figure something out with the ones I have. You don't know anybody that has chrome wheels that they want to trade for gold ones do you????

Re: Progress pics on the new paint job... - 05/13/10 03:57 AM

Oven cleaner will remove the anodizing just fine. As for the polish Mothers works as do many other products out there. IMO trying to go from satin to polished I would choose something a tad more agressive to start and a good variable speed sander/polisher. Wool pads work well on polishing aluminum as do the foam pads used to buff cars out. That is what we use is our old paint buffing pads.
