Chassis Dyno Results! - 05/09/10 05:54 PM

It's been a long time coming, but finaly getting to where I can see the light at the end of the tunel. 439cid W9's R3 block built by Ryan J car weights 2760 with Me in it. still have door panels carpet sail panels etc. shouldn't be more than 2810 complete... First pull just ran it up to 7200 RPM Bam 640HP on the board. It was Fat as Hell rejetted the carb, pulled it to 7600 RPM 660HP. Wanted to try some super slick BRISK Racing spark plugs, changed noting but the plugs and it picked up 2 HP, so were at 662HP still running rich. So removed both power valves jetted up 4#'s and ran it up to 7800 RPM 675HP it made it's peak power on all the pulls between 7300-7500 RPM's Max Torque 523 I think there is still more left in it, didn't play with the timing at all. We set it at 36 Degrees and never touched it again. Hell it was almost midnight so we called it a night. Going to be running the car in some 5.70 Index races and wherever I can fit in. Running on MT 315/60/15 Radials and Ladder bars.
Thanks Ryan your the Man!!! also Thanks to SB412 for Killer chassis ingenuity on the car...

Very nice numbers that car should fly. Your going to have to slow it down for 5.70 index

Thanks guys!! I wanted to make sure it would run the # even in the Dead of the Intense summer Heat. So anything beyond that, is icing on the cake... belive Me I'll take it!

I know it's a Bullet cam not sure on the specks. I believe it's 14.8 compression. Ryan Dynoed the engine hell like 3 yrs. ago just didn't have the car ready. Made 789 at the flywheel on his Dyno.

Nice... I assume these are fly wheel calculated numbers

It made 675HP to the tires. 789HP at the fly wheel on Ryans Dyno.

It made 789 @ 7400 RPM on the SF901. See attachment....

So looks like chassis dyno is showing ~ 14% drivetrain loss, or since I don't like to use percentrages when dealing W/ chassis dyno #'s, because % will vary wildly depending on HP of motor... 114 HP loss through drivetrain... "most people" claim 18-20% drivetrain loss on chassis dyno, but those #'s are not accurate.... 18% loss on a 400 HP motor & 18% loss on a 1000 HP motor are going to be wildly different.. & yet the chassis could be exact same, so percentages are not right when looking @ chassis dyno #'s

Melvin, closet vehicle weight/dyno #'s I have off that dyno for comparison would be:

2713 LBS/ 739 HP ran 8.82 @ 152 in mineshaft air. Normally 8.90-9.0 149 MPH range. So if you end up in the 2800 range... you'll be right in that area... probably 8.80/90's when sorted out.

Congrats on finally getting it together....

OH BTW, it's 14.2:1 & off top of my head cam is like 274/278 @ .050" & ~ .760" lift W/ 1.7 rockers.

Re: Chassis Dyno Results! - 05/09/10 08:55 PM

I remember this motor now. 439", hogged W9's, good sized roller, vacuum pump, etc...

Stout piece!

15% loss of 789 would be 670hp, so both dyno's correlate with each other. My guess is that Ryan's is a little low though, and it's probably more then 15% loss through an automatic...

Thanks Ryan! Within a month we will see exactly what it's going to run. I'm thinking somewhere in the 80's It sounds Wicked,it's got some babby Crickets in there. Running it whith 3.5 inch Magna Flow Mufflers.

I know chassis and engine dyno load etc is different, but that seems odd when the engine dyno showed 14 A/F ratio???

Not sure why, the Eng was Dynoed in Pa and the chassis dyno was done in south Ms, so possibly the difference in the climate? 18.65 is what the A/F ratio was we got it to 12.69 that's we're it made peak HP.
