Who has Experience with Phoenix Slicks - 04/15/10 02:46 AM

Anyone here have any experience with the Phoenix 10.5 slicks? Just looking for opinions. How many passes are you getting out of them? Do the side walls stay in them or do they give up the ghost in 30 passes?
We are needing to replace our Hoosiers and since they only last about 30-40 passes before the side walls give up we're now looking at Phoenix.

Thanks

I don't run them anymore but had good luck with them when I did, I got more life out of them than the Hoosiers, or MT of the same size. I swithed to MT for one reason, I needed a size they have 31-10.5 W, I used to run the Phoenix 29.5- 11.5 W's but can't run those in some of my races, so I just decided swaping tires wasn't worth it and stick with the 10-5 MT now. Guess a lot depends on what you are running, car, weight, how fast, size ect, but I really like the Phoenix slicks, ran them pretty much for 7 or 8 years. My car runs low 10's, weighs 3700 with me, 60's were consistent 1.41 oe so, depending on which track at density altitude. EDIT BELOW

Didn't notice until after I posted that you asked about Phoenix 10.5, thought it was Phoenix in general, my info may not help you, but the 31-10.5 MT's have been better for me than the Hoosiers.

we also run the 29.5 11.5 w tire and have great luck in a 900hp 3800 lb car! Much better then the hoosier as far a longevity...

We run the Phoenix 31-13-15's F9 compound on the duster. We tried some hoosiers once and did not like them. Phoenix has never let us down! We get on average 300 runs on a set.

Hey guys, thanks for your input! You've been a big help!

It sounds like Phoenix is a good direction to go. I know M/T's are good also but I think Peoenix are going to be the choice.

I see they are now offer a 31-10.5W. But, I don't know if we can fit it under the car.

Besides I don't know how 4 1/2 inches more of roll out will effect the converter which is set up for 30" tires. So we probably will stay with the 29.5-10.5's.

Thanks again

Now that is good mileage! I thought I was doing well with 200+ on my Phoenix 12.2 x 31.25 W

For the original poster. Try running inner tubes and as much air pressure as you can hook. This helps tire (sidewall) life. Also a nice wide rim. I have heard many racers successfully running 33 x 10.5 W tires on 14" wide rims.

10-5-29-5-15
10-5-31-0-15w
10-5-33-0-15w
12-2-31-25-15w

Phone Coker Tire and ask them to check a few pairs for rollout. The 31x10.5W is rated 99.5", but they might have a set around 97 on the rack.

I didn't know Phoenix was now building a 31-10.5W slick, that tire may be worth checking out, just bought a new set of MT's so it'll be a bit before I need new ones, I may want to give the new Phoenix 10.5W a try, I sure liked all their other slicks.

I would love to run 33" tall tires but we can't get them in the wheel openings. We're running a 65 Coronet with stock wheel openings and mini tubs. We run some NSS races so we want to stay with 10.5" tall tires. The car weights 3700 lbs and runs 9.70's - 9.80's, and the side walls do take a beating, so tubes are a good thought.
Any one else running tubes?

Thanks again.

We use Phoenix and also use tubes. The tubes will keep the sidewalls from going away.We are getting MANY runs on Phoenix and they will hook to the cords as mentioned.
