After gapping rings I installed pistons and rods, degreed the cam, put the timing cover and water pump on, bolted the windage tray on, along with the oil pump and pickup...

Then I had to make an oil pan...which was a long and grueling process not really worth my time. But, like many out there right now, I have more time than money. Started with this. Was actually very grungy and full of sludge but that's pretty typical I guess.

Upon grinding welds down and making it "pretty" it still leaked everywhere and I was unhappy so it sat for a while and the sump was cut off again and a hand made piece was formed...

Then I cleaned my cylinder deck for the last time, put new dowel pins in, put some head gaskets on, and installed my heads with some head studs...

After taking the rockers back on I put the remaining studs in and torqued them down, then checked for pushrod length...

Juuust for fun since I don't have my pushrods yet, I had to throw on the intake and carb just to see what it looks like

To set the correct install heights on the springs, I made my own tool using a 3D CAD solid model program and fabbed it on a lathe. Kinda cool I guess...

So, waiting to get some pushrods as of now, then I will install those, along with the valve covers, and paint the engine. Once dried (of course) I will install the intake manifold and seal it up till the transmission is done and the car is ready...hopefully won't be too long

72 Duster. Should make a nice "sleeper".

I'm sure it looks different now.

Ehhhh.....I dunno about my fab skills there were a lot of leaks in that pan and the tool is kinda crude BUT they work. We will see how I fare on the rest of the body work on the car

Sure! What do you need to know?

And thanks Wade I am hoping I make 3x the power haha but we shall see. I am hoping I have the thing up and going by MMW this year so I can show off my poor driving skills

Comp, Cam, Head flow, Etc.. THANKS!!!

Comp, Cam, Head flow, Etc.. THANKS!!!

Compression ratio is 10.49:1. Heads were cc'ed at 64cc's, and the head gasket I am using is a Fel-Pro Z1008 (.039" compressed thickness). My pistons weighed in at 579.5g, rods were 428.5g (big end) and 165.5g (small end). Hoping to run pump gas but I might not even take my chances.

Cam is a Comp Cams piece, FL 7131 lobe both intake and exhaust. Duration@.050 is 242 and @.200 it is 157. Lobe lift is .360 and with the 1.5 rockers I have the valve lift is .540 at zero lash. LSA is 104 installed.

Heads are 587s. Milodon stainless 3/8" valves with 987 Comp springs (121lb on the seat, 343lb open). They flow about 275cfm maybe a tad more. Vic will be able to tell you more about them, I know that when the ports were roughed in they were sitting at 274cfm.

Intake is an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap and the carburetor is a Holley 825cfm with a Proform main body & baseplate that I got from Keith Dunnuck.

The fuel pump has been blocked off and I will be running a Mallory Comp Series 140 pump I bought off of Myron.

Transmission is an A833 4 speed with an Hurst Indy short throw I bought off of Jeff Patterson. I am wanting to faceplate a couple of gears on it. I already have the flywheel and pressure plate, but need to get the clutch still.

Rear is an 8 3/4 with 742 case. Rebuilt the clutch-type posi unit myself, put 3.91 gears in it (highway gears to Vic ), and bought some high strength alloy axles with green bearings and 3" studs from Dr. Diff.

I scored me some heavy gauge welding wire (#2 maybe? I would have to check) and I am moving the battery to the trunk. Thinking about minitubbing the Duster but I may not want to deal with that. I have an aluminum radiator that I bought and fabbed a couple mounting ears on it just like factory, and I have an electric fan. So the only thing that will be draggin the engine down is the alternator (I have manual steering forgot to mention).

I think that about covers it all. If you want to know something else PLEASE POST!! I really appreciate the interest guys, though I know this isn't really that new and exotic as most guys out there. I am flattered some are still interested. Any thoughts about anything too feel free!

You're welcome! Glad to post! I will eventually have more as I progress with the project. I will bump it when I get it going for maybe a sound/video clip and some time slips, maybe a dyno run we will see. Hopefully not too far down the road.

I like that combo! Sounds like a copy of my favorite 360 street/strip build ,minus the good head work.LOL I did my own and they were no where near as sweet. Should be fun!
