ARP main studs in stock block 440 - 01/24/10 03:49 AM

Just put new ARP main studs in my block and they stick up above the pan rail about .180". The rear ones hit the oil pan/windage tray.
OK to just trim some off that is out beyond the nuts?

is that with the gaskets also?
edit: i drilled a hole in the windage tray to clear the stud.

No, but it doesn't look like the first gasket will be thick enough to get windage tray off the studs.

like i said just drill a hole where the stud is in the tray.it wont hurt anything.

That might be enough to keep it off the pan rail. The pan rail (alum) comes over it also. I was looking at a different alum pan that has the windage tray mounted on brackets welded to the inside of the pan and only used one gasket.
The pan for this car uses 2 gaskets that sandwich the windage tray. Might just work, thanks.

with the cut off wheel shave off a few threads

two gaskets with wintage tray was not enougth to clear the two studs

I covered my motor up ,short block was done at the time
