And as for the noise complaining buffs out there, well what did you think the greatest metropolis in the nation would sound like, crickets in the mist? No! you'll have to hear open exhaust on every corner cause people sooner or later will take to the streets.

What, No more racing @ cross bay blvd behind Kennedy airport, The cops did not bust ya till after 11 on Thursdays, saw my first funny car run there back in the late 70s,Seems that they were still racin there in the early 80s when I left

178 here. My Dad grew up in Island Park so if this happens we might come up at some point. There was a petition here to prevent anything from being built where 75-80 Dragway is after it closed, and less than a year later the track re-opened after extensive repairs.

Have you thought about talking to the folks that have the old Grumman site? That closed east side runway would make a dandy drag strip. You can never have too many allies in an endeavor like this.

Once, an old Girlfriend herself was stuck in the traffic mess where I was well....... you know.

I going to post this up on my facebook i have a ton of gearhead friends that live on the Island.
I First picked up my Challenger in 2004 by the time I got it road worthy the track closed done about 1 week before
.
Long Island i think at 1 time have over 7 race tracks. Now we are down to 1 Riverhead race track and that just a small Oval track
Lots of guys in my generation will never get to experence a Legal drag race at a track here on Long Island. IT is a shame.

I might suggest that since the purpose is to show the Town boards why they should do this, my comment on the petition is "A track is good for local merchants: everyone buys gas, eats before and after the race, shops at local stores, etc."

Poly is right, make sure they truely understand the economic impact from a track. I am the Chairman of the Board for our local track, ESTA Safety Park Dragstrip in Syracuse, and believe me, we have been thru hell with neigbors at times, and you will want some town members that truely understand how this affects ( positively) the "locals". Good news.

I’m in Mr. Lee! Shh don’t tell anybody that my car is over 4000 pounds, it’s a secret. We desperately need a track around these parts. I pretty much stopped racing after the Hamptons closed down. I really don’t like spending my whole day at e-town, just to make 2 passes and sit in traffic for hours to get home on a Sunday.

Try and loosen up and ride with us so we can have some seat time with the new combos.

We have fun. All you need is a trailer and puller because we travel at some times.
Hopefully in a few years we won't have to go any further than Long Island.
To think that this $%##@ city just demolished two perfect and historical Stadiums to built two new ones just for throwing balls, and in the mean while young people with a real need for a Drag strip get nothing, but the choice of the street.
Noise! what noise is so different from ranting crowds and traffic coming out of a ball park whether they win or lose a game. Don't get me wrong or started, I for one love Baseball, but this is a Sports type of town with all the noise it creates period and having a Drag strip within reasonable reach will only create revenue and safer streets.

We have been without a drag strip in Connecticut since 1986. I've donated $$$, gone to meetings and signed petitions many times. We haven't given up here and continue to hope it'll happen, but be prepared for a long drawn out process trying to accomplish your goal. I wish you the best of luck in your venture. I'd love to take the ferry ride over with the racecar to do some racing. Used to go to NY National in the early 70's before moving to CT.
