Thanks guys,I spent a ton of time on the fab work.Made the front end lift off, only four bolts hold it on.Built a crossmember for the rad to set on,so it stays on the frame and the front end comes off.Cut the rad support and boxed it in.Built a new trans crossmember.I did all this to make it easy to work on.The front end comes off in just a couple mins.I can have the motor and trans out in about 20mins.After racing an A-body all these years I had to have something easy to work on.Lenny

That looks cool!I see your using a bigblock truck header. Is it going to work. The first truck I did I used A-body fender well headers.Had to cut two tubes on each side, made for a clean install. On my pile I had two sets of old headers. One was a 2in sat and the other was 2 1/8.So I cut the bends out of them and made a set of step headers. They should look OK when I blast them and get them coated. It sucks being poor!!!LOL

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 12/31/09 08:45 PM

Nope not truck headers they are b-body headers.
i had to cut two tubes on one side to make them fit right and the other side was a bear to do . after looking at yours your look a hole lot better the what i have got. and gaves me a ideal to redo my headers . i don't have them welded up at this time just cut and pushed together so we may do something else.. this is what i have so far . it does fit very good and by the way this what my 15 year old son came up with he cut and put them together him self.

That's what I'm running on my Gen III, sticks like glue, but I'm only running a little over 300 RWHP, hope to spray it this year, we'll see what it does with another 150 HP...

The other Dak looks like you're using a Wishbone...?

I'm all set up with Chassis Engineering shock mounts welded on the axle & relocated shocks...but still I'm using the monleafs. Since the setup works so well, I figured coil overs would be a waste for my HP level.

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 01/01/10 09:07 PM

How fast do you plan on running with the truck? Ive been debating whether I should go with a 4 link or caltracs on my Street/strip Turbo Big Block dakota project that is still sitting in pieces
Posted By: 8secDart

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 01/01/10 09:16 PM

Need to go high 5.20s,that is NOT going to happen.Should go Low 40s,high 30s spraying the crank out of it.I've got some customers cars in the high 40s with the cal-tracs but they are about 3,600lbs.I only have to be 3050lbs,donot think I can get the truck that light.

Posted By: 8secDart

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 04/02/10 02:43 PM

Damn that's gonna be sweet!

Looks like Monoleafs and Caltracs with 3-4" blocks. I'm using the same set up, QA1 shocks are located like yours, but I wanted to drop an additional 1" over the 1" I already have (using blocks) but Calvert Racing said not too...1" block is max.

I might do it anyway, see how it works...Right now the rear sticks like glue...I hate to screw it up.

I really like the bracing you did on the rear, these frames are pretty whippy. especially when you start cutting stuff off like spare tire carriers. I had a x brace made out of flat stock that I bolted to the top of the frame...From the shock mounts back.
Posted By: TrxR

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 04/02/10 05:15 PM

What color is that truck? Also why did you decide on the caltracs instead of a 4 link? Have you tried your brakes yet? we had a guy here simply put a manual brake master on his truck but it required way to much pedal pressure to stop the truck and I have heard you have to change the pedal ratio to fix the problem.

Thanks?
Posted By: 8secDart

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 04/02/10 11:11 PM

I will run stock suspension classes. To change the pedal ratio move the pushrod down about an 1 1/2 and good to go.
I have run these same lowing blocks on different cars with no problem.Mud and 4X4 guys run much bigger blocks with no problem.

The truck is black with purple cage and frame.

Is there any reason why you used the blocks, and not a set of lowered hangers? Not criticising, just asking
Posted By: 8secDart

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 04/03/10 12:11 AM

I don't follow on the hanger deal.I have cars that 60 in the 1.25 range with blocks.I like it simple.

just thought that maybe a 3 or 4 " block would be too much leverage against the mono leaf/cal-trac. My dakota's got adjustable rear hangers. Although thats like comparing apples to oranges again it wasn't meant as any criticism
Posted By: 8secDart

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 04/03/10 03:39 AM

No it's cool. The rear stock hanger is really short. It might drop it a 1/2 inch but can't see the 3inchs I need.Post a picture maybe I can learn something.

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 04/03/10 03:57 PM

The problem with the adjustable hangers is they wont clear the Caltracs if you use anything but the bottom hole. You end up having to hack them up. And Lenny is right about them being weak, but just like his stock ones, they can be beefed up.

Adjustable hangers on m y Gen 2.

Clearanced adjustable hanger on a Gen 3.

Bent adjustable hangers.

I couldn't race a car with paint that nice first time I pulled off the end of the track and all the rocks hitting the qtrs and fenders would just make me cringe. I would prob get in a fight the first rock from a burnout hit the front. LOL.

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 09/22/10 09:43 PM

what kind of clear do you use?
Posted By: 8secDart

Re: BE SCARED,BE REALLY SCARED - 09/23/10 02:19 AM

It's a roller now.I have to paint the frontend and tailgate.Install the door panels and run the fuel line. Not much left.

For the clear I use PPG ShopLine.Really the clear or what brand has nothing to do with the look!!!!
WAX ON WAX OFF,LOL
