I started racing there in 1970. George was a true friend and will be missed greatly. He was one of a kind, and the best thing was,he did it his way. RIP my friend.
I remember the first time I heard about this track on powerblock 5 or 6 years ago. I would have liked to go to the track, to experience grass roots racing. Hopefully in his memory someone will keep the track up and running.
Rest in Peace George. This guy is a legend in our sport as Im sure many of you know. He operated this track well into his 80s and took no crap from anyone. I beleive this was and is the longest continuous running dragstrip in these United States. There was a great article in Hot Rod a few years ago about him and the track and a A/FX car. Bret Kepner wrote a good article with good pics I believe as well.Maybe we can get some links. I ve always been fascinated with that little track and George as much any big mega track. God bless his family and know he will always be remembered.
Actually there are no time slips, you better have someone listening for your time or you're SOL.
You bring your own water to the line to do your burnout with and you can bring your own VHT to put down and do a small burnout on at the starting line.
Will the track close, well we don't know right now.
