This was/ still is Chuck Lofgrens Cuda. Car is now Dark Grey, and runs 9's in real street trim.
Rick Johnson's 68 SS/AA car is John Hagens second 68 Cuda. Car is still run in SS/AH, and is light yellow.
Cool pictures. Thanks for sharing.

when I lived in Aberdeen, John Eischinger brought his old TVD slides to one of our drag race get togethers at a bar there. He had about an hours worth of old picts. WJ, the Grump and a ton of old stock/SS picts. Thanks for sharing the picts. I have some "early 90's" TVD picts, but my scanner died. I'll have to work on getting them up someday. I even think I have a pict of a red 64 in the lanes.

Yeah it's funny who's on here. I didn't have a clue who "big dad" was until he told of the story of the Nova that wore a "mopar performance" plate for a year. My "where is he now", or "dead or alive" TVD question is: where is the "Willey B" Ford Fairlane?

There was a guy named Keith Millage from Sioux Falls that used to run a couple purple Cudas if I remeber right!? Do you have any pictures of his cars?
My dad took me to Thunder Valley for the first time in about 68 or 69 when I was about 7 or 8! I have been a gearhead since! What a great place!

Keith had a 67 Hemi car that had been drag car from day one
The other car was a A/sm 70 Cuda
He hauled them with a 71 Dodge D-500 truck
I'm sure that had previous race history too
He does not have anyone of them any longer
He has a 56 Nomad today , dropped on 20's
I have many Keith Millage stories

When I went to Thunder Valley the first time with my Dad (68 or 69) I remember a yellow 57 Chevy with "Yellow Fever" painted down the side in big letters! Does anyone remember this car? It sat way up in the front with a straight axle! I would love to see a picture of this car again.
There are alot of GOOD time had at that place over the years! I hope it stays around another 40.

...remember Erling Compson? I think he was already in his early 70's when I started racing at TVD. He would drive his little orange 70 Dart Swinger from Sioux Falls (that he bought new), jack it up, swap on the slicks, and go racing. Always thought that was pretty cool. Believe he passed on around eight/nine years ago.

yeah guess they figured his rod from master cylinder to the pedal came off so he had no brakes. was told that he went through the lights in the 10's. guess he slammed it into park but tranny broke or drive shaft broke so car was still moving. That is about all I know.

...by the way I heard a car went off the big end down at TVD last weekend. Not sure if you've ever looked where you go when you don't stop at that track, but it aint pretty!! Didn't hear any details...just that it happened.

My soures tell me it was
one of the Fiche (fike) kids ..Not sure how they spell that name
It was a 13-2nd something and throttle stuck
and went off , down ..
Geez, turn off the key ?
A 13 3nd car should never see the end of that track , there is plenty of shut down area
plus that hill takes a bunch of speed off
My old heavy beast went 10.95 @ 122 and with
lousy drum brakes, I could make 1st turn off
without much effort
Jr dragster drivers ..Yeessshhh

I have never had a problem either but I am slow. The big up hill drag at at after the traps is a big + too.

Corey. If you think about it cruise up the gravel road on the north side of the track and snap a picture of the end of the track sometime.
"HEY YOU KIDS!!!! GET OUT OF THE CREEK!!!"
...I still laugh at the thought of that BigD.
I really have to get some of my old picts scanned so I can post them. Nothing special, but always interesting to remember back when.

I don't know if you were there when the

Well, some kids got in concession "tent"
grabbed a box of Butterfingers..
Next day, he went on and on and on about his
butterfingers
"WE ARE NOT RACING UNTIL, WE GET PAID FOR THOSE

After like 2 hours of this..I went and gave

No I moved in 97....the year they FINALLY paved the dang return road. Payed into that "pavement fund for six years and never saw it happen.
...word I got on the end of the track incident was that the rod that goes to the master cylinder came dislodged and then bent. Guess the guy went into the rail on the topside to scrub some speed, but ended up hitting the pea gravel trap (which hasn't been tilled up since...???? full of weeds, etc..). Guess they do have some water barrels beyond that because I guess he hit those and sent a spray of water up in the air before he dropped off into the great unknown (maybe the world is flat!). Tower didn't know that he went into the "abyss", but did see the water and thought that he blew a hose or something so they shutdown the track to look for coolant and found a totalled race car and a shaken bruised racer. At least the driver "walked away".

I know this is an old post, but I just stumbled across it tonight looking up some info on a guy I used to work for and the owner of the Kansas Hemi car among other Hemi's. Wolfe Racing, John Wolfe and son Dave Wolfe. Talk about a guy who knows his stuff, John's a Mopar Maniac to this day at 70 something years old. He lives in Ault, Co and runs a horse ranch and small Custom Mopar component shop call Mopar Madness. Two years ago John and I finished his 67 Dart GT colored Plum Crazy Purple, that had been sitting in the works for many years, under the hood you'll find 550 horse stroked 360!!(Johns driver!) Talk about a hair raising car! The father and son combo just couldnt get along and thats the reason they threw in the towel for racing. Dave now resides in Alaska. John is a hard fella to get along with tho. Ive got his contact info if anyone wants to get ahold of him.

My dad took my brother and I up there when I was seven or eight. I remembers a black VW bug with flames on it and Don Prudomes Hemi Colt that went every way but straight and thats about it until '91 ish.
Jim and Danny Dalrymple ran Chevys back in the day all the time up there. They have alot of photos also. I will have to look through them and copy them for you guys. Danny is building a '63 Dodge Maxi clone right now.

Awesome link ! Thunder Valley is where I "met " my racecar . It was back in 1980 and we were down for the Div 5. Bracket Finals . The dart belonged to an Iowa racer named Steve Weber and had a 426 Hemi / 727 combo that ran mid 10's . Love at first site , it was mine about 14 months later when Steve decided to build a smallblock Arrow .
COOL ! Thanks !

Yes, A/FX was in comp elim. Created basically to get the Pro Stocks out of the altered classes back in the late 70's early 80's-ish era.

A/FX ??? HUH - back in the mid-70's - some of the ProStock guys wandered into Comp/Eliminator-- people like Carlton, Sox, and others - this was when the Chrysler race programs had died. NHRA did not like that a bit, as Carlton was ruling COMP - so NHRA decided that if you had one of those cars, they created a new couple of classes - A/FX - B/FX - etc. the same car but a lower index. That is the reason Carlton built the stretched Colt.

Ended up in the grass on wheels ..Lucky it never got on its lid
Local antique store has a very cool, Dodge Colt ad sign from when the were importing them
Its nice, double sided ..wants $750 I think the lady might drop down a bit on it

I'm gonna try to put the Colt back together this winter - it hasn't run since the early 80's when it was sold to a guy in WV. It was an Arrow Dynamics-built Colt (Denver) - built in 1976 for Larry Maas here in Neb, he ran it as a Hemi/4-speed in A/Gas, later put a PG in it. Still has the original Dana/ladderbar, etc.
Thanks for the tip on the sign - I do have one already.
Many Thanks,
Reed in Neb.

This is what I asked about thinking the hot pant girls were on a plum crazy racing team car,I asked quite a while back in a post,it was plum nuts,so was I when I saw them in 72 at division points meet in omaha,39 willys coupe was whom we were there to pit crew with,Duane Dysinka, with the omaha on front in green at same race posted later here,he was known as wheelie king of midwest and ran 283 bored to 292 fuel injection in it if I remember correctly d/gas.May not have spelling correct on Duane`s name but my uncle worked at napa in Omaha and it is why I was at the race in first place.I was 15 then, thanks for the pics Big Dad,I had a hawkeye camera and had no clue how to use it,and when I got pictures back very few are worth posting but will scan and post the few that are,71 pics.Found a couple pics and they are bad and were dated 72 on picture. So have say it must of been in 72.Most these cars were there and Judy Lilly was in her ss/aa bacaruda and won,don grotheer defeated dyno don in finals of pro stock there also.My uncle was chevy,me and my father were for the mopar camp. Both pro stockers lost clutches in final and grotheer out coasted for win. Will never forget what got me hooked young on this sport....

Do any of you folks remember this car running up north or at TVD? It was sold to a guy in Minnesota around 1966. I saw it at Indy a few times after that and it still had the light blue stripes. As you can see it was an aluminum car. It had a Bill Jenkins engine and at least prior to the sale had won a lot of Division 4 and 5 races. I have always wondered what happened to it. It was owned by some friends of mine here in Oklahoma. They bought it from a guy back east that had moved to Dallas. I think his last name was Nelson, but could be wrong.

Thought about going up to watch Saturday, but the daughter has a softball tourney this weekend so that is where I'll be. I can race later..... for now I'm very content with being a "softball dad".

Some great pictures. I see a few of Dale Rethke's car in that last batch. That car hasn't changed much in 20+ years. Although it runs a little faster now. Is the pink Duster Rod's car does anyone know?

This is a long shot but does anyone remember seeing my Plum Crazy 1971 R/T Challenger at Thunder Valley?
My car came from out west and has Thunder Valley stickers in the rear windows.
It is a 4 speed car and probably had a big block in it.
It probably had it's original interior in it with black/white checkered cloth insert seats.
I have no idea what the car looked like back then but from it's current very close to stock condition it must not have been modified much.
It might have been painted red back then though.

Believe that yellow road runner may be in Pierre. Rich Shangreux tracked his old high school car down and it was iirc around the winner area in race trim and painted yellow. He did a full restoration of the car. Saw some picts of it when he picked it up and that yellow one looks pretty familiar.

I care! I just stumbled on this thread, one of my favorites! I love seeing what the cars looked like back then. Even the 12 and 13 second cars were all lettered and stickered up. I like seeing the dial ins on the cars, what kind of wheels people were running, the names of the cars. Everything had so much more character back then.
