Best (okay, CHEAPEST  ) place to buy pistons? - 11/15/09 09:17 PM

So, I'm talking with a buddy last night; he wants to have me bore his 440 block. So, we get to talking about pistons.

Thw shop I'm at does a lot of older (pre WWII) stuff as well as sixties-to-current stuff; we're not tied in well with any of the piston manufacturers. We can order anything under the sun, but we won't get much better a deal on a most aftermarket parts than any chump coming in off the street.

I'm thinking of steering my friend towards KB forgings from jegs or summit; decent prices on some slugs that'll cut 175 grams of piston weight and allow a 1/16 compression ring pack.

Any other 'bucks down' suggestions along these lines?

TIA!

If he want a good quality piston go with a set or Diamonds.
I havent heard anything bad about the Keith Black Forged pistons..and they seemed to be priced about as cheap as it gets..
Look at 440Source Web site, they have some good prices and a variety of sizes and applications.

Hey Bob, thanks for chiming in!

I'm with ya' on Diamonds; they have earned a pretty good rep.

I believe that the pistons Brandon at the Source sells are KB forgings; I think they're in the mid four hundreds range for the same stuff at the big online stores.

Ya' know, I don't think I stressed this enough, but this is a very bucks-down kind of build (we're using all stock shortblock, with the exception of cam, rod bolts, and pistons.

Jon was originally just going to freshen the engine as a stocker w/ a cam, but the bores were just a little tired for that.

So, I'm looking for options to cut some weight off the pistons and help the rest of the lower end live easier.

BTTT...
