Its hard to read a alky plug, from boarder line "rich" to boarder line "lean" the plugs look the same to me despite what EGT, or MPH says.
When you find out let me know...
here is a bump for ya..
I can tell you that with lots of squeeze and on alky, plug gaps doesnt like to be much wider than .035
I get the tune close, and tune for MPH the same way I do on gas.
When your close it will gain about 8 deg temp from launch to cross the finish line..You gotta look down fast, cause once your off the throttle the temps will fall fast...
I try to stage the car at or near 160..

I use NGK plugs, go by how much plating is scorched on the plug plus exhuast temp readings. I was told you like to see about 2/3 of the plating scorched at the base of the plug, or the surface that is even with the chamber wall.

I found that after only one run on a plug, if the plating has burnt off just down off the ground strap onto the top ring of the plug you are close. It is very hard to tell. They will tan up after a few runs if you are close. You can tell if it is rich because the plug looks washed but lean is another story even with egt gauge. I had good temp reading and leaned out. Took the porcelian right off the electrode.

NGK Have to be read after one run with the engine shutoff before the turn off. Have to use new plugs every run to be able to read them.I've read hundreds. I wanted to see 2 threads discolored.

With the new engine we are using NGK's and need to change hte plugs every run to read them. We were told to have the platinum 2/3 burnt off the plug. You can tell if the timing is good also by a small burn mark going up the neck of the plug.
What confuses me is what EGT i should have. Depending on who i talk to its anywhere from 1050 to 1250?????? That a big difference!
What was weird about our engine was one side was reading to rich where the other side was almost to lean.

What are you running for a motor.If you are running a weadge head don't try the 2 tread down as agood heat.I have been there! The max setting we found would show heat all the way aroud the top of the plug. If it's starting down to the treads get some more fuel in.Again this is on weadge head. Hemi is a whole diferent deal. Then the two thread deal is good.We backed my motor to where it was 3/4 around the plug.If you use top end lube it will make it harder to read also.There is a good article on dragstuff by mike canter about reading alcohol plugs.

My experiance is with a blown/injected BB Chevy which is still a wedge of sorts & we always looked for two threads...
