Norwalk Halloween Classic...anyone else going? - 10/07/09 11:03 PM

Well, it's almost that time of year again. Is anyone else going to the Halloween Classic this year? I just got my credentials today, so now I've got a couple of weeks to get all worked up about it!
I'll only be there Friday through Sunday. I'll be running the "Super Roller" No Box gambler race Friday night and Sportsman in the main event in my daily driver.

John nailed the description pretty well! Usually if youn find yourself in round 3 Sunday late in the afternoon, you realize that you're at a race! I've been to the semis twice, I wanna get one of those "Gremlin" trophies!
I did, however, win the Dart Head limerick contest last year. I won a set of heads for writing an "epic" limerick. I had the certificate sold befor I got back to my car.

Do you have to be pre-entered for this race?

Re: Norwalk Halloween Classic...anyone else going? - 10/09/09 03:41 PM

You do if you want to get through the gate before Wednesday, Or to get into some of the Gambler's races.

My winning limerick from last year. This year, they've limited it to a normal 5 line limerick. I made them make a rule!

"A Ghostly Cheer" by Ron Huntley, Jr.

There once was a ghostly group
A scary and ornery troop
They'd travel around
To cities and towns
To Scare Folks with howls, screams and whoops

They stumbled, on Saturday past dark
Upon Summit Motorsports Park
It was filled with racers
From corvettes to pacers
And the ghost leader had an evil spark

I do like this place immensely
The people are packed in so densely
Let's saddle up boys
And go make some noise
And frighten these people intensely

So they gathered themselves unseen
Above the starter (a man not so lean)
They'd pop into existence
On their leaders insistence
And let loose with unholy screams

But their plans were knocked to the floor
By a sudden calamitous roar
If the ghosts had the chance
They'd have wet their pants
The ghosts were scared to the core

Soon the spirits recovered
They liked the noise, they discovered
The "air show" had started
And so the departed
Watched cars ripping off their back bumpers

The spirits then looked all around
And were surprised at what they found
Ghosts hovered round the track
Past racers had come back
From their resting places in the ground

So instead of scaring at will
The ghosts remained silent and still
The classic raced on
Til the last car was gone
And all of the spirits were thrilled

Late October comes every year
And ghosts from far and near
Come and take their seats
And watch us compete
Listen closely, you might hear them cheer

Yes, you HAVE to pre-enter! The deadline is October 16th. You can enter by calling (419) 668-5555 or you can sign up online @ www.summitmotorsportspark.com. If you think the Chrysler Classic is fun, then you will really have a great time here! Racing starts Tuesday night with the General RV "Mean Motorhome Race" for class A and C motorhomes. The winner of each class wins $250 and a General RV jacket, btw there is no entry fee for this race! Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday will be time trials and a gamblers race in the box & no bax formats. Saturday is first round of eliminations, qualifying in the DeCerbo Construction Outlaw Doorslammer and Outlaw Dragster classes (NO rules)and last but not least is the Wheelie Contest (which I am entering my "Mr Mopar II" Dodge Dart) $1,000 to win the highest, $1,000 for the longest and each winner also recieves a classic Gremlin trophy as well as a poster of your wheelstand! Sunday is final eliminations and a "Last Chance" race for competitors that lost in the first round of Eliminations. Other activities that will be taking place during the event are: pumpkin carving contests, youth and adult costume contests, free racer BBQ under the big white tent, best decorated pit contest, and trick or treat so be sure to bring some goodies to pass out to the kids! Oh and you can never tell what the weather will be like so bring plenty of clothes from shorts to Carharts!

Re: Norwalk Halloween Classic...anyone else going? - 10/10/09 01:12 AM

A time trial is NEVER useless Ron, it's an extra hit on the tree! You can NEVER practice your reaction time too much, especially when you're entered into the Super Hi Roller Gamblers race the same night!

Drake,We will be out next fri for the rerun of the cahos series. Just too much work to race the car and do 300+ dinners and have fun. So we are going to cook drink and watch cars flip over in the wheelie contest!!!

Re: Norwalk Halloween Classic...anyone else going? - 10/13/09 06:12 AM

Ron, Scott won't mind. He's a good guy and cooks a ton of food! Just wait until you taste the dessert that he's famous for! One nice thing about being a Koffel's customer is always getting killer food at the track at BIG races like the Night Under Fire and the Halloween Classic! I won't say what we eat except that we eat well!

Have fun boys. [/quoThe family who runs Firebird (their name escapes me) came out to Norwalk many years ago to watch the whole thing go down. Great people, I remember! Triple, why don'tcha come on over and hit the original one?
