Leaf Spring relocation pics? - 09/15/09 04:02 AM

I am planning on doing a Spring relocation in the coming weeks on my Valiant.
I would be curious to see pics of peoples installs. I plan on putting mine to the inside of the frame rails so I can notch the rails.

67 Valiant, minitubbed and springs relocated into the frame with a Mopar kit. I used a steel rod to keep everything square until it was all tacked in place. Then you have to CUT the rod to get it out!

I know with mine I had to "massage" the gas tank with a fix anything tool to make the passenger side spring fit.

When I relocated my front spring hangers, I was not satisfied with the inside unsupported hanger, and I added a gusset seen in the attached pic. Just a thought.

If you are running a fuel cell I don't think there's an issue as to whether you mount the box on the outer or inner wall of the stock frame rail. But if you are running a stock tank, I think you need to mount the box so its flush with the inner wall of the frame rail, otherwise you may have clearance issues between the leaf spring and the sides of the gas tank.

I have seen instances where people will shorten the tank to clear the leaf spring.

No, I spaced mine right in the middle, equal on each side, and never had any problems with the spring being to close to the tank. It never hit at all. I have went to a cell now though, not for that reason though. I figured that 9.80s on a stock tank was good but if something happen it wouldn't be good..

I know in my case, the factory tank isn't an issue as I will be running a fuel cell.
What plate thickness is used for the spring boxes?
