rancho rear shock question - 09/08/09 04:23 AM

I put a set of 3400 lb super stock springs on my 70 roadrunner per Mancinni's suggestion.I dont make much power, just a 13 second ride and i want to order some rancho 9 setting shocks. The car sits pretty much in the stock position, not like the rear is jacked up had i put on the 3800 springs.Should i order the shocks for standard ride height or 1" raised? Thanks.

I am using Rancho 9000 RS99116. I bought them from Calvert at MATS last year. I am using the 3800* SS springs.

I would be careful on the length. I used the 2800 springs in my cuda and they would really seperate from the body on launch. I needed a lot more than one inch over stock length. I would measure the seperation with the shocks off the car and have that length handy and call calvert.

So even though my car sits with standard ride because of the 3400 spring, should i get the 116's that are for a 1" taller ride height?Does this mean the shock has 1" more travel than a standard?

Use the 116's.I'm a bit surprised about the suggestion of the 3400# springs though.I'm using those on my B/RB powered Demon(along with the 116's) and the Road Runner( a 70 coupe) uses the 3800# springs.

When i called and ordered the springs Mancinni told me to stay away from the 3800 and go with the 3400 even on a roadrunner.I didnt ask why i just took there advice.

We went Chrysler's suggestion on the Road Runner. From what I remember, because our car with driver was over 3400#'s they said to use the higher rate springs. All I can say is that the Road Runner would hook in a car wash.

We just looked into the Rancho catalog and ordered up a set of 99112's for my dads 68 RR. We measured up things and at rest, he has like 6" of compression and only about 4" of extention with the old CE (longer shocks). Since they are 24.5" extended and 14.5" colapsed, we went with even LONGER shocks. The RS99112 rancho's are 26.00" extended and 16.1" colapsed. These should work out just fine for us.

Measure! Plain and simple. If at rest, you have around 19 inches between mounting points,...then the 99112 is a better bet, as it's compressed is 16" and extend to 26". If your only at 17 or less at rest,...don't use the 99112 or it will not work.

Not to sound dumb...

But what are the spec's you look for,,,,??

I assume you need to know the "travel",,,so i should take off the rear shocks,,,and jack the car up,,,to see the amount of travel (distance) i get....

does anyone have a link to the various shock lengths,,specs,,,available ?

I have 1" OVER stock calvert springs on the 65' (and it sits up a bit in the back),,,

I need to find out if my shocks might be too short ?

hhmmm,,,,

Not sure what you're future plans are, but for a 13 sec. car there are probably cheaper shock alternatives out there...

You shouldn't really need an adjustable shock for a 13 sec car. But I could see if you plan on going faster in the future, and need new shocks now, why you'd be looking at them.

Just trying to save you some cash!
