US NATIONALS at Indy - HEMI Shootout - Whos going? - 08/19/09 11:16 PM
Well its getting close to the time for the US NATIONALS at Indy.
It starts on Wednesday 9-02-09 and ends on Monday 9-07-09
The HEMI Shootout will be on Friday 9-04-09
I am flying in early Wednesday morning.
I plan on being in the pits of Lil Joe Teuton for most of the time.
I sure hope i can meet and spend some time with you guys.

I am taking my 11 year old son and it will be his first US Nationals. I know my son will love seeing the pros but for me the Hemi guys make the show. The smart money is on the Westcott's but I have to root for the fellow WV boy!

As far as i am concerened, the HEMI shootout is the only reason to go.
I usaully drive all night thursday to be there friday
and i watch the shootout and drive back home.

Dad (MFR426) and I (MFR440) will be there Thursday afternoon through Friday night, groupies and pit crew for Darrell Marvel, SS/AH# 3426 if he needs us.
As always, if any of the Hemi guys or any other racers need a shop with a lift, welder, etc. we're only 15 minutes away!
Here we are working with Mr. Harry Holton on Darrell's car a couple of years ago. Stop by and say "Hi!"

Tickets are available in advance through NHRA.com and ticketmaster, also at the gate on Friday. Local McDonalds are offering a $7 discount on a commemorative cup for general admission ticket. 
If you are just there to watch the Hemis I would buy gen admission, but if you want to stay for the Nitro cars reserved is better. I have never had a problem finding a seat for Friday night, but can't usually sit near the starting line with a gen admission ticket.

Just an FYI. The Hemi Challenge traditionally runs at the tail end of Super Stock class eliminations, which begin about 8 a.m. on Friday. The Hemi cars assemble for a photo in the staging lanes and then hit the track for the first round about 9:30. The rest of the rounds are run throughout the day with the final taking place just before the first pro qualifying session in the late afternoon.
As for tickets, you can avoid the Ticketmaster surcharge by buying them at the gate and yes, the local McDonald's is offering a $7 discount so that's certainly worth pursuing.
Also, if you happen to be there on Thursday, you can also take in Stock Class eliminations where "Big Daddy" Don Garlits is planning to debut his new Challenger.

John Baughman not on the list..bummer. What about the Barton Boys it would be nice to see them back dominating again...at least one of thier motors. Bucky Hess...yes that would be nice to him in the finals he's a good guy. How can you count out the CW's boys, I wouldnt know who to pick.

I did some more checking - Ticketmaster is waiving their convenience fees for Nationals tickets.
There are still $20 Gen Adm. tickets available for Friday through Ticketmaster. Choose the "Fan Relief" option, the code is "relief".

This needs more exposure.I don't know you is in charge of promotion but I have talked to some people who thought the shootout was not going to happen.I set those I talk to strait.I tell them to look here.More people need to know the shootout is on.I am going for the hemi cars a nitro late afternoon {dusk} qualify session.

I think it was a late decision. We all kind of thought it would happen.
But MOPAR did not announce it until a couple weeks ago.
I wish they would promote the HEMI's alot more.
They should promote them more than anything else in my opinion.
CW i guess that is a good problem to have.

I go to the US nationals every year. I only go on friday so that I can watch the super stock cars run. I wish all of you a safe and good time.
Since the class was change to ss/ah, what runs in ss/aa now or is it unchanged?

The stands are packed on Fri. eve for the Hemi Challenge Final, because it is the start of the Fri night PRO Qualifying sessions..Now Hebert , when you make it to the Final, don't be getting stage fright in front of all those people.....

The Holt's have that Barracuda hooking up and going down the track , That Jackson Engine Tech. Hemi is making plenty of Horses and your doing a nice job wheeling it.......

Leaving Tuesday night. Will be on the grounds Wed. Thur. & Fri.
Rumor has it, David Hakim is avaliable to drive this year. Here he is praticing for the Challenge. He does keep his helmet with him. Just make sure there is seat time for Michelle also!

He may have his helmet with him, but he won't wear it for fear of messing up his hair

I got to Indy at 6pm, but haven't gotten out to the track to get my credentials yet!
Alarm set for early AM
P.S. Open house and Car Show Saturday night at the ProMax Carbs and Performace Shop at 30 Gasoline alley! Only about 20 min from the track.
Oh yeah, and I brough my helemt AND Fire suit! You know, in case some one needs a driver!

I came home a little earlier than i had planned.
Sadly the Teuton gang just couldnt hit the setup,
and they didnt make the field.They were getting it dialed in though.
It was great to see everyone though.

I had a blast, i mean it is Indy after all.
Frito it was great to hang out with you!
