msd 6al problems

just talking to a buddy and he went out for a blast in his shoebox nova....going through the gears he noticed 8500rpms on his tach in second then 3rd....hes tell me his rev limiter in his msd 6al is toast....anybody here have the same problem....this could be my problem also....but mine was the other way around....tach was below what it was suposed to be

6al takes pills or you need the adjustable box.Is the tach bot reading correct is that the question?Or isnt it hitting the limiter?Rocky

the 6al takes the pill or you can plug in the MSD module selector which has a dial and you can adjust 200 rpms at a time.....mine goes from 6000rpm to 8200rpms....
to me it seems the box is telling the tach the wrong rpms because its breaking up which means i am running into the rev limit i set it for....
i shifted at 6800 on the tach...its breaking up...i set the limiter for 7200 and its telling my tach its 6800
