i think he owns/runs a construction company.
He slipped quietly from the limelight of Pro Stock about 5 -6 years ago and is concentrating on his construction business.
Being his former PR guy (1999-2000), I have great memories of working with him and Scott G. in the NHRA travelling circus.

He was always very nice.. met him many times.. Have a picture of him with my wife he had his arm around her.. she did't want to wash her shoulder for week !..we thould the world of him..very nice guy.
I remember when I was a lot younger. probably 10 or so. I was able to talk to darrel. like an actual conversation. How many racers will stand there and talk to some lil snot nosed kid in a mopar shirt lol!
He was a stand up guy. Back in the day I drove out to Topeka to watch the Nationals out there. Drove my 1970 Dart out there. Looked good from a distance kinda car red, scoops and a black tail stripe. His rig passed me in Indianapolis and the whole rig honked as they passed me. Got into Ohio and pulled off at a truck stop and low and behold they were there. The whole crew shot the crap with me for a bit and I don't know why, but Darrell was there
I don't know why he was there, but he took the time to say Hi and how he was impressed with my car and that I would drive it 12 hours to a race.

They must be doing pretty good, I blow by their place in the RR every few days. They built a new shed to house more equipment this summer. It is out near the Fleming County line.
Bobby does own the gas station/liquor store by the interstate.
I'm glad DA escaped from the drug cesspool/whirlpool that is in eastern KY. Very easy to get sucked in and counting those that are on the outside of it is far easier than counting those in the middle of the crap. So good for him.

Back in 91 or 92 I was a huge DA fan. I really liked him and he was winning so as a kid of about 17 that was important.
During the fuel cars running at Indy I went down to the pits. Nobody was in there, 4s were brand new, and nobody wanted to miss it. DA was sitting on the step of his trailer eating lunch, I was standing at the ropes. He said hi and asked if I wanted a closer look. I sure did, he took me through the car, got to look all over it, and through the trailer and everything. Was a great guy and very nice and hospitable to me.
Joe Lepone also let me into his trailer and showed me around.
My father at the time was really pushing me to apply for a job on one of the teams. He said he would help with my expenses, and all they had to do was keep me around for the summer helping out. I of course was finally getting "some" and couldnt see travelling for nothing and busting my butt for no pay.....LOL - what a fool.

I met both Alderman and Geoffreon at Milan dragway at some event that they were booked at years ago, when the were still on the top of their popularity. Alderman was a very personable person and would talk to everybody and sign anything. Geoffreon - not so much - seemed to want to stay in the motorcoach as much as he could and would grudgingly sign stuff if he had to. Maybe he was having an off day, but he definately wasn't a people person that day.

Darrell is a lot like the rest of us, he's made some bad mistakes, and done some very good things, his are magnified a bit more than mine, he was a heck of a driver, and from what I saw, overall a good friendly guy.

After his legal troubles back in the day I was told that part of sentencing was community service. A friend of mine got in touch with David Hutchins and asked about Darrel giving a talk at my sons elemetery school. They came to my sons school in Waterford Mi. Darrel talked to the kids about what had happened to him. I was there that day. Good talk. Both my sons listened and grew up straight arrow. Very nice guy. Talked to him several times at events after, he was always personable and had a few minutes for me.
