Turbo Cuda 7.30 @ 195 - 07/27/09 06:52 PM
Finally got my wideband O2 sensor up and running and now starting to make some power.
The car is still crabby to get to spool but once it gets moving it really gets your attention.
60' 1.25
330' 3.224
1/8 4.806 156.19 MPH
1000 6.158
1/4 7.303 195.99 MPH
That pass had 14 PSI for 4 seconds and 20 PSI for last half.
The AFR was still way to rich ( 3.1 ) the wideband was pulling out all it could.
Going to do a program change to take more fuel out next weekend and maybe get the Green machine over 200 MPH

Good job Dean!
If Chris could find someone to flow/tune his hemi, we might be able to do some match racing...
His chassis is down at innisfail right now, but will only be good for 7.50s
. Maybe a swift current deal...

Might try the 3 degrees of timing and 2 step bang procedure to build boost faster .
The car only leaves with 2 - 4 pounds of boost.

At 3000 lbs which were the rules for SSCN.
In regular PSCA, small blocks with centrifugals have a 2800lb minimum weight. You will have to be 3100lb for twin turbo and 547 ci.
Also, Sikora was at 3000 lbs when he ran the 6.63 in Chicago. He's got it dialed in
Good luck to you.

He now has Ron Weems and Rich Zehring covered.
I am at 3115 pounds , all factory glass and stock dash with the AM radio.

Re: Turbo Cuda 7.30 @ 195 - 07/27/09 11:59 PM
You biggest problem is going to be getting all of that power to the ground AND 60 ft. Also, it wouldn't hurt to get it to 3020, ready to run.
Finally, Are you sure your AFR is calibrated properly? Seems to me your richer that the UEL of either gasoline or ethanol.

Re: Turbo Cuda 7.30 @ 195 - 07/28/09 12:38 AM
I made a base pass when I got the wide band up and running and found out that the AFR was 2.9ish.(7.80 @188 )
I talked to Leo Meany from Bigstuff and Precision turbo about the discrepancy between the commanded AFR and actual AFR.
They said start changing the fuel constants and fuel pressure until the numbers start to line up.
I made some changes and went 7.61 @190 (3.0ishAFR )
Pulled more fuel out and went 7.35 @195.22 3.1 -3.2 AFR
Last run of the day I never change anything and went 7.303 @195.99 the AFR was the same.
This weekend I am going to get the AFR to 3.8 or so ,then try more boost in the front half .
The correct AFR will help out the spool time and front half ET considerably.

Just an FYI, my buddy Todd Moyer has gone 199 in the 1/8th in his twin turbo Camaro in Outlaw 10.5 (2450 weight). He thinks that timers were wrong though becase his datalogger showed tire speed and driveshaft speed to be 190 mph. Either way, just a bench mark for you to shoot for!

Yes it is and he had us covered last year-in fact Rich was runner up to Billy Glidden in the supercar race in Vegas. His edge seems to be gone now. That is the kind of stuff it takes to be competitive in Outlaw. I think that one of his motors has well over 900 cubes-along with the 5 foggers.

I have been to the super street nationals in Vegas and it looks like a lot of fun.
I dam near needed a extra card for my digital camera I took so many pictures.
Bear in mind that these guys have been at it for some time now and I don't expect it to be a walk in the park.
Just want to get my feet wet and not stink the place up.
I wonder how many of these contenders bent and welded there chassis, fabricated every single part and doodad , build and tune their engine in there garage. My guess in not many.
I'm not complaining but I knew it was a unfair fight when I started.

Doug built his car in his garage. We are fighting the same fight that you are. I think that once you get your car sorted out you will be a player. What you have accomplished is nothing short of amazing. You have all the hardware that it takes to go fast. Now you just have to make it work. That part, IMO, can be tougher than screwing the hardware together. Welcome to the PSCA Outlaw club. Now have some fun! Are you bringing it down for the Vegas Labor Day race?

Have you thought about a rpm based nos system we use them on the turbo buicks to get them spooled up . Normaly a 100 shot in a fogger nozzel is enough to spool up much faster! We put it on a RPM switch from say 2000 to 4500. once it gets there the turbo takes over. don't know if your rules allow for multiple power adders or not. just an idea

I didn't end up going to Mission ( NHRA wants their own Medical )
First pass today I changed nothing from last weekend and went 7.51 @ 197.88 ( car left lazy )
Second pass went a 7.38 @196.54 both passes had the front left front tire hanging in the air at around the 1/8 ( sounds cool but I would much rather have all four wheels on the ground going 156 mph)
Ripped a few strings off the parachute and had to mount a new one. We had a 35mph crosswind and the car was a handful .Between the mid track wheelie and the crazy wind it was unnerving day.
The air was 4300 plus today and I was still pig fat . Tomorrow should be better conditions I will pull more fuel away and that should clean up the bottom end .
