Advice on Gasket Dressings - 05/05/24 06:32 PM

I’m about to change the gasket on my transmission’s servo (ATI) cover. It’s a paper gasket and I’m looking for some advice as to whether to put it in dry or dress it with something like aviation Form a Gasket. I asked ATI and they said they put them in dry. But I was thinking it’s a pretty new trans and it didn’t take long for it to leak. Any advice would really help.

Nope.

Maybe a skin of silicone on a metal clad seal. A dab on pump bolt gaskets, maybe. Teflon for pipe threads and pump bolts, Other than that, dry on everything in a transmission.

Glide? Stock case? Lots of power? Someone didn't crack the case with a cooler fitting?

Was the old gasket leaking ? Was anything on it ?
I once had a 727 that appeared to be a bit porous near the pan gasket; no gasket or prep would address the weepage.
Hopefully that's not the issue here.

Nothing on servo cover gaskets ever here. Always dry. Is it a powerglide? If so It has an oring on it for additional sealing anyways. Should never leak. Have never put so much as a dab of sealer on anything transmission related.
