Hemi Torque sequence - 04/21/24 12:27 AM

I’m putting together a 518 ci Hemi

This is a mega block and Indy 426-1 aluminum heads

What is the Torque sequence on a Hemi
I’m using head studs

What should they be torque down to

Top row the same specs

How can you torque the top row from under the valley

My first Hemi motor so I’m new to this

Any tips please

Thank you Ari

If your running aluminum heads call the manufactures tech dept and ask them what torque sequence and Ft. lbs. on all the fasteners on your motor.
I seem to remember them being different from stock iron heads to Mopars aluminum heads, maybe different on some of the other brands also. I think the inner studs into the lifter valley use less torque also scope twocents
Way better to get it right to start with, another one of the reasons I call them 426 Hemiroids motors rant shruggy work

If they are ARP studs they go to 80 ft lbs. with ARP lube. The book calls for 5 lbs less with aluminum heads. Some people go less on the inner studs of some aluminum heads (say 45 lbs on Edelbrock heads) because it can distort the intake valve seat. What size inner nuts do you have? You will need the appropriate torque wrench adapter as pictured below.
