Moly Rings - 02/19/24 01:55 PM

I have a NA motor that I'm looking to add a little boost. The motor was built for NA(Tight gap) My question can i just open up the gap for boost with moly rings or just replace the rings. The motor may have about 100 pass if that many.

It will be fine as long as long as the tune is right, be conservative.

if the rings are not hurt you should be able to reuse them after opening, enlarging them, the end gap on both the top rings and the middle rings
How much boost and what type of fuel are you going to use?
I like a lot wider end gap than the minimums, IE 4.350 bore size. top ring .020 to .024 and on the second, middle rings I shoot for between .024 to .030 on N/A motors non both gasoline and E85 up wrench scope twocents

I'm thinking no more than 15 lbs. and running on e-85.
I was looking at a video the other day were they talk about gapping the top oil ring work never herd of that you have any knowledge of this?

Every oil ring I have used had .015 +,stock usually closer to .030 shruggy These are 3 piece oil rings, not the early single piece cast oil rings like used years and years ago back in the day grin
I think the oil ring middle spring spacers come in three different tensions, low ,medium and stock confused
Measure all of them (end gap) just to be safe up scope wrench
