Winegartner Racing Promaxx Big Block Head - 02/06/24 09:23 PM

Here's a link to Eric's video discussing the details of the new cylinder head he's helping Promaxx develop.
Looks to be promising. These should work very well for a stock displacement 440 or 400 Big Block. I'd even be tempted to try them on my 505 vs the TF270's I've been eyeballing, just for the fact that he's keeping them much closer the the "Standard Port" size. I could retain all my current top end. Thoughts ?

Yes, he fully discloses its a Chinese head. One of the first things he says. If you watch the video, you'd learn he's developing it past where it's at " as cast". The prototype port he's developed is flowing in the low 340 cfm range @.700. Pretty impressive considering it's more of a "Standard port" size on the intake.

It’s a blatant copy of the Trick Flow TF240………. that’s made in China.

I knew they were coming, as I saw pictures of piles of them stacked up at the foundry a few months ago.

I understand your point.. and you're not wrong.. But I think that's the world we live in nowadays. Leo Fender Released the Stratocaster in 1954. The Stratocaster is an American Icon, but it's been tweeked, refined and improved upon "Blatantly copied" for the last 70 years by any multitude of manufacturers. If someone engineers a great design, it's gonna get copied. That's business.. and that's capitalism. I just thought the numbers Winegartner massaged out of it within the confines of a standard port were impressive. Just wanted to share. I like Winegartner too.. he's a no nonsense honest guy.

Yes, but there is also 20 more cylinder head options for each one of those Chevy guys.

How many offerings for the Mopar crowd from AFR ? . Zero, How many from Dart?. Zero, How many from Profiler ?. Zero.. etc.etc.

See my point ?

Because fewer people are buying them, why would these companies throw money away to develop, manufacture and offer them? They'll sell 100 pairs of LS heads to a pair of Mopar heads.

How many different brands of what are essentially the same outdated design of head do you need?

So, you're saying it's not worth improving Big Block Mopar head design? Because it's an old design? That statement makes no sense.

Re: Winegartner Racing Promaxx Big Block Head - 02/07/24 04:08 AM

How much fundamental difference is there in a Trickflow 240, Indy EZ, Edelbrock RPM head from the factory head?
Posted By: Torquemonster440

Re: Winegartner Racing Promaxx Big Block Head - 02/07/24 04:19 AM

How many differences fundamentally ?? Ok.. The most glaring difference.. ALUMINUM !! On average 25lbs lighter per head. The chambers are vastly redesigned to improve combustion and resist detonation. Valves are significantly lager and typically Stainless Steel for durability. Not to mention the larger intake runners!!.. blind accessory holes.. etc.. the list goes on and on. Multiple fundamental differences.

And based on how I see Promaxx pricing their other Project X series heads, it will still make more sense to buy the original Trick Flows => Promaxx Project X Series

In architecture? Very little, since they are "stock replacement" heads with standard valve location & angles and standard-offset rockers (not including the MW-port Indy EZs)

In implementation? They each have their own approach to runner design / volume / chamber design / valve sizes

Re: Winegartner Racing Promaxx Big Block Head - 02/07/24 03:56 PM

Would be nice to see someone come up with a canted valve head designed to fit on a BB mopar or a more affordable version of the Predator head instead of these dinosaur inflated small block style wedge heads.

AG.

Agreed. If priced similarly I would definitely lean toward the Trickflows as well. Better casting and QC in most circumstances. I am impressed with Winegartner's numbers though.

They are NOT improving ANYTHING! Just another Chinese knock off of an already produced head. It's another unnecessary choice in an overcrowded market. I guess unless you are to broke to buy the American version in which case maybe a look at lifes decisions might be in order.

Hey Al,.. Relax, we're just having a discussion about cylinder heads here bud. No need to start slinging insults.

Look at your signature ... 906 heads .... too many mopar guys want a head that looks like a 906 when you open he hood , that's part of the reason the companies you mention are not doing it , never mind if they did someone would send one them over to china to have a half a$$ed copy made .

Crazy thing about this big block rpm copy is Speedmaster doesn’t offer this head. They only offer the Victor copy which has caught lots of guys by surprise after they received them. Not sure why they didn’t catch the huge runner volume. Speedmaster being one of the biggest off shore head sellers was surprised when i questioned him on this. It’s like they forgot about a part number that would sell probably 8 times better than the Victor copy. Hopefully they offer it soon because I would grab a few set’s during the 40% off sale.

I really couldn't care less about the external looks. I just thought the idea of a head moving 340cfm @.700 through a standard port would be helpful with any of the common stroker combinations.

Re: Winegartner Racing Promaxx Big Block Head - 02/08/24 04:33 PM

You mean “almost” std port openings.
Hopefully the amount he has raised the roof at the opening doesn’t create an issue when trying to use a std valley pan gasket.

Personally, I would have opted to keep the opening truly “standard” for gasket compatibility, and not worried about the very small increase in flow raising the roof opening that about would get you.

I have gotten 350+ out of a std port head without modifying the opening…….. so I know that size opening will support that much flow.

No insults meant just statin my opinion on buying AMERICAN parts, rather than Chinese knock offs when there are plenty of American options. We arent talking about buying a TV afterall plenty of USA made options.
