Which Hyd Roller Lifter for Small block ? - 12/24/23 04:24 PM

I am sure this has been discussed but can't find it in search results. I need a set of reliable hydraulic roller lifters for my street stroker. Who is everyone using ? I'd like to stay under $1000 for the set

Good luck so far with my CompCams 8920-16 pieces.

In fact, I had set them up pretty tight too, that being 1/2" turn for pre-load. The valve springs are CompCams beehive 26056, 150lbs @ seat, and 375lbs @ open, 3/8" pushrods with oil-through provision for my HS rocker arms.

Keep in mind that I only put half a season of cruising on this setup, so this is all preliminary reporting.

I've had Canes in my 360 for 20 years. Never needed adjustment. Never make noise. The lifter valley needed some grinding on one side of the block for tie bar clearance.

Crane is long gone and Gaterman (who used to work at Crane) only builds a big block Mopar hyd roller lifter. I don't know why he doesn't offer a SB version since it would be the same body with just a different link bar.

Morel is a option. Hughes engines offers them #5321, USA made. $550

I have used the Morel for both big and small block Mopars with good results. They do work and adjust better with 10w30 oil. Couple sets had a warning sheet about the proper oils to use, they asked for a specific centistoke rating, which I had never heard of. So after doing a little research 10W30 oil is what fits the bill, they actually run quieter with the thinner oil.
