Header question on tube chassis car.... - 04/24/09 02:59 AM

I need some headers for my tube chassis car. It is a round tube strut car. I have a raised deck big block with original B1 heads. Do I have any options other than taking it to a chassis shop to have some made? The closest chassis shop to me is 4 hours away! I have a set that I used with my old motor but they are too small and won't fit the same with this new engine and heads. Does anyone know if someone makes headers like this you can buy without getting them custom made? Or can they make them with some measurements that I can take myself without having to transport my car somewhere? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I only make headers to fit the car and I always have
the car on hand. You might get away trying a under
chassis header(your normal shelve items) and see if
they would fit with some minor cutting.... but most
likely they wouldnt match the power range

the headers off of my avenger might work on your car. i had B1MC heads on it. they are 2 1/4" tube with a 4" or 5" collector. i'll have to ck.
i'm building a predator motor and making a new pair of headers.

I have some for a Hemi tube car lying around

you really need to more than likely get them made. lots of subtle differences in how cars are built. unless oyu are talking Hass, RJ, or Bickle built car then maybe you can get some made. An example is my car has a raised floor for an exhaust, so my headers are tucked way up under the car.

I still have the big headers that I got when I bought the Daytona from you. I guess you used them on your 572 when you had that motor in it. They will actually work on the passenger side but on the driver side they won't clear the steering column. They also hang down a little too low on this car but not low enough to hurt anything. I might be able to have them modified. Thats really the only thing they have to clear is the steering column.

My car has a raised floor also for the collectors to tuck up into. I just wish there was a shop closer to me than 4 hours!

I feel you there...We bought a TIG welder and I sent the boy to school becuase we prefer to do all the work ourselves. When you move as much as we do makes it hard to develope relationships with shops.

I think I talked to you about the Daytona a couple of years ago..

BTW Wes cant wait to see how that Avenger runs with the new bullet

You just gave me an idea....I know a guy that is an awesome welder and can weld anything from stainless to aluminum to whatever. I wonder if he could make me a set if I just bought a tube kit? I'll check with him and see because he just lives 10 miles away and he would be able to come to my shop to do it!

this set is made for the RJ race car. they are not as large tube as the ones from the daytona.
they fit tight up in the chassis. no low tubes.
you can try them if you like to.

A buddy of mine bought the ch**y weld together kit that hookers sell plus a few extra bends and fabbed his own using mopar flanges. He did say however its a real pain and takes ages to get right but once made its well worth it and cheaper than having customs made!
