1970 Cuda with Hemi drag car in Cali??? - 10/18/23 05:09 AM

Does anyone know anything about this car? A young guy in California is selling but knows nothing about it. He got it on trade and was going to make is a street car but it was to much for him. It has a aluminum hemi. I’m interested. It has California title.

I've never seen it, but that engine looks pretty high effort if everything is dialed in.......

looks to be a good starter project. worth the effort to go look at it or at least have a video meeting with the guy live to see it before money changes hands.

I did a video meeting. It has a Indy Maxx water block, Peterson dry sump, tube chassis with 4 link with Dana and Afro shocks. It looks like the car was painted and never put back together quite right. It is missing dzus fasteners, wing, parachute, and windows.

Looks like a serious effort engine. The car is decent with lots of nice parts. The chassis must be mild steel because its all mig welded. Could be Moly but being mig welded its not correct and would not certify.

Lots of expensive parts there but it doesn't look like the project was finished. Was the chassis ever certified? The parts are worth some money but who knows how much work the car will take before it can go down the track. You just never know until you start working on it.

I have a chassis guru coming over to look at it! Most is tig welded. Only the FC cage is migged. I removed belly pan and most of the chassis is pretty nice. All 15/8” tube. It has a pretty bad oil leak. I will check everything out since there is a few fasteners missing or loose. It looks like recent paint but never finished assembly after. Need new wing, side window, a chute mount and a few other things.

Looks a lot like the Cuda I am helping with. The Chassis when was it Tagged and how fast is it tagged for. The motor needs more specs to make any kind of judgement but looks like some good parts but inside counts more. Price is the most important thing, You know you will be taking most things apart to be 100 percent sure of everything. Will likely have to go through the motor and rebuild it, one reason is to find out what is inside of it. The Tranmission will have to go through that also just to see if the good parts are built into it but if the shifter is telling the story of the parts inside it has a clean neutral, I like that. The rear end same thing will have to take it apart and make sure everything is good and the gear is what you want for your application. So put all this work into what you are paying. If he knows nothing about the car you are going to have a giant learning curve and I hope everything is OK with the motor, trans, rearend and Chassis. Not trying to put the Cuda down it looks very nice but we only see picture on here and it is hard to tell how it was built by them. I noticed the intake, if built by Hogan that is a good one. Other things you mentions are good also. Good luck with you purchase if you decide to. I think you are going about it correctly sending people that know there stuff to help look at the car and get their opinion. You have all Winter to work on it if you decide to buy and could be ready for Spring Racing.

Another heavily modified Barracuda. This one has a blown 572 Hemi and a title. Not much love for it judging by the lack of bids.

Freds car sat a good deal higher, had a Marcella intake with nitrous bungs in it, Moroso sheet metal covers, different wheels etc. Not saying its not but some differences for sure. That car seems to have some decent -parts on it for sure. Apparently starts and runs as well. But always a crap shoot buying something someone knows nothing about.
