SB head comparisions, Indy 360 versus ported iron T/A heads? - 09/15/23 04:34 AM

I'm getting ready to put a small stroker pump gas 360 motor together and was looking at the old post about the L.A. heads used back in the day work
My question is has any one on here ran both types of those heads and if so what are your thoughts about which ones are to get now help luck
Thanks in advance bow up Cab

T/A heads are basically just J heads with the pushrods holes moved. While there may be a bit more material on the outside of the ports, they dont make for a huge improvement over what can be done with a regular J head.

The Indy 360-2 will offer more performance. The 360-1 will offer significantly more.

For an entry level motor, I would advise just going with a set of out of the box Edelbrock heads. Most cost effective route. Or you can buy the Large port commandos I just posted in the small block engine classifieds. Shameless plug. Sorry. LOL

Don't those T/A heads have a significant value to the restoration crowd?

I should have stated originally that I want to buy a new set of aluminum heads, not a used set of ported W2 or T/A iron heads blush realcrazy

Check with Brian Halfinger (IMM Racing engines) , I'd like to hear his opinion

I have a set of the Airwolfs that are I believe were CNC ported Pro Comps, they flow really well but they only made a few sets of them on my 414. They flow around 310 @ .600 the only downside to them is the roof to spring pocket thickness is very thin but I don't run a very high spring pressure so they work fine in my motor/combination.

I believe the Pro-comps were actually cast thicker in this area then the Edelbrocks, so I think that's probably where much of the additional flow potential comes from. If I was running a .750 lift solid with a lot of spring pressure I'd be a bit nervous but i think if I wanted to run that big a Cam I'd be looking at a W9 (or something similar) anyway.

Vote here for the Bloomer heads Rod and Vic Bloomer designed and sell
They are a factory replacement type head( like an Edelbrock) that take all factory type parts( headers, intakes, rocker gear, etc)
Make excellent power as delivered( fully CNC’ed, 2.08 valve, springs of choice)
I am very happy with the set I have. A friend is running them on his 2880 pound AMX, and has been as quick as 5.94 I believe at 113+, just the way they come.
My best with them is in my signature, plenty more I could do(bigger and or roller cam) but with stock block I don’t want to push any further.
I took ported Eddie’s off, swapped on these heads and new headers, have thus far picked up 3 tenths over 5 mph.

For some reason Brian doesn't like me, probably because my pump gas street Duster was faster through the full exhaust system than his race gas drag race Duster was with open headers. stirthepot devil grin
His car had a LA SB race motor and mine had a 400 pump gas stroker motor stirthepot whistling devil
What he didn't know was that I was building and racing Mopar's before he was born shruggy

Would not touch those swap meet half machined commando heads...

I was well pleased with my ported Edelbrocks. On my 10.8-1 408 they went 6.57 @ 104 and change at 3230ish pounds on pump 93 with an off the shelf flat solid cam.

Was one of the best running combos ever!

That right there is the reason I prefer to keep clear of you. Unfortunate to see your still the same.

I I beleave that Bloomers heads make more power than any other conventional LA style head. But I don't know what he sells them for. My AMX weighs 2910 with me in it. It goes 5.94 @114.5 in the 1/8. And 9.43 @ 139 in the 1/4. Have not played with the timing or jetting yet. This is with a unported super victor. I beleave that there's a few more hundredths and 1 more mph to be had in my combo. If you can fit his heads in the budget you'll be glad that you did.

How much did you pay for your Bloomer Heads?
