Kil-Kare shutdown length - 09/04/23 05:20 PM

Thinking about running Kil-Kare next weeked. The event will be 1/4 mile. I'm sure they normally run 1/8. My car runs 147-149 mph. It stops well. I've run 1/4 at Dragway 42 with no issue. How's the shutdown length?

Re: Kil-Kare shutdown length - 09/04/23 05:41 PM

Google shows it to be about 1,000' at the first turnoff and a hair over 1,500' at the end before the sand traps so at almost 200' shorter than Island I'd say it's a very short shutdown. I like to use the second turnoff at Numidia which is almost 1,800' and I think that's short running in the low mid 120's.

pull the chute

Re: Kil-Kare shutdown length - 09/04/23 07:46 PM

It’s short, but I’ve seen way shorter. I trapped mid 140s I’d pull the chute every time. I think you’ll be ok. That’s my home track.

Its only 1/8 mile racing generally. I had no issues stopping from 153 in the 1/8 with the Stratus. We have MUCH shorter tracks out here. You wont have an issue.

Pull the chute before the stripe to be safe . After the high gear shift put your hand on the handle and be ready

Re: Kil-Kare shutdown length - 09/04/23 11:25 PM

DVW: This track is in my back yard.my car has the original A body disc brakes on the front and disc on the rear. At 150 mph with only brakes the shutdown is short. I usually avoided this track for years due to the shutdown and went to Muncie. At the end of the shut down is a creek. Many cars have went in the creek. If a wrecker couldn't get them out easily they would leave them in and continue with the racing program since they have a midnight curfew. Use the chute and be ready to deploy. Be safe. Birdtracker

Re: Kil-Kare shutdown length - 09/05/23 12:26 AM

I'd love to pull the chute. But the car doesn't have one. I believe shutting down from my speed if it was at the 1/8 would be OK. It's the speed at the end of the 1/4 that worries me.

They always bragged about Norwalk having a 1/2 mile. I know at 160mph in my Daytona I didn’t need my chute.

1,745 at Mo-Kan.

Hard on the brakes even at 133 mph. nervous

Having raced extensively at 131 and Norwalk over the years, Norwalk is shorter. First pass at Norwalk I made in my old car I had both driver side tires in the grass making the turn, remember thinking how quick it came up. I have always been kinda slow getting on the brakes, but that really had me change my habits racing there back then.

Re: Kil-Kare shutdown length - 09/06/23 01:18 AM

I'm going to give it a shot. I talked to a few that have run London Ky at 150. It's even shorter than Kil Kare. Get on the brakes right at the stripe and you have room. And for the record Norwalk has about 75 ft longer shut down than 131. I've run Milan, Mid Michigan, 131, Norwalk, Dragway 42, Quaker City, National trail, Indy, Beech Bend, Clay City. No issue stopping at any of them. Always run 145-150. The shortest of the bunch are 42 and Milan which is my home track. Kil Kare is 250 ft shorter than Milan's main turn off.

I really Dont think Norwalk could get away with this if it wasn’t true. I do know that from going there 45 years or so it’s longer than it used to be. Cars used to e d up in the airport quite often.

Running at 150 should have a chute anyway. You never know, just in case.

I've been thinking about it for awhile. I know it's required at 150. And I'm close, usually 147-148.

Its pretty short but back in the day they ran super pro 1/4 mile and had some of the fastest cars in ohio.

We'll be there running no box. We are saving Betty for Moparty.

Re: Kil-Kare shutdown length - 09/12/23 12:11 AM

Stopping wasn't an issue. Hit the brake fairly hard right at the stripe. Stopped in plenty of time. I liked the track. My nephew lives 12 minutes away so he came on Saturday. Traction was good. 7 out of 9 hits the 60 ft was +/- .003. The other 2 were about .01 quicker. For the most part racing was very close. Saturday Rd 1 took a .011 stripe, rd 2 ran dead .004 and pushed him under, rd 3 .007 stripe. Ok to conservite on the tree. The car hitting the dial and driving the stripe has saved me. Better in rd 4 a .017 to .057 light for the easy win. Then had an issue in rd 5. Staged to far right of the groove in the dark. Wheels went up, and car made a hard right towards the tree. Had to abort the run. He and I were .032-.031 at the tree so it would've been a good race. Sunday car was dead on again. 1st qualifing hit is dial for dollars. Went .017/9.088 on a 9.08 prediction. 1st rd my .016 to a .075 lmade it easy and ifted early. Rd 2 I went red. Would've been tough. He was .009 with a 10.51 on a 10.50. I was -.002 with a 9.079 on a 9.09. This was the run that had the greatest 60 ft change. Picked up .011 over the 1st two morning passes. Even if I was green it would've been tough. Had a great time. I was seeing the tree better lately. Swapped from my out of date prescription sun glasses to my everyday pair of glasses. We'll be at Milan this weekend.

Nice runs Doug! Our cars would make one fun heads up race. Our increments are almost identical.
