If it does sell, I hope the new owners, operators, are more racer friendly instead of hogging all the money for themselves and not wanting to reward the racers when they win and do well Smith, the current owner, operator is almost as cheap as Jim the former owner and operator of Woodburn drag strip The first race I attended at Woodburn was their annual fall classic, end of the year race, and I ended up getting beat in the 1/4 finals, there were 175 racers entered in Pro bracket. I went up to the tower to get paid and I was told they never pay anyone other than the winners and runner ups no matter how many racers are entered I ask how much the money for the winner and runner was up and they said $300.00 to the winner and $150.00 to the runner up

Recent info is a real estate developer is looking at buying the track for housing. They are holding out in hopes of a new owner be found before the deal gets done, but I don’t see someone dropping $11 million and another $2/3 million on taxes and renovations on the site.
I am planning to go up for the first time in 15+ years because I’m sure this will be the last year it will be a race track. I’ll be hanging with Ed at the Mopar Shop business swap in case someone needs resto parts. I might bring up a bunch of big block stuff up because it’s easier than shipping.
There will not be new owners running a track. The track has a non transferable lease with the current owner Dave Smith, who has had a very bad year health wise. If and when he passes and or leaves the track will be no more.

To prevent the spread of misinformation on social media, we’d like to send out this official announcement: Due to the influx of rumors going around about the potential closure of Sacramento Raceway, we would like to issue an official SRP statement with full transparency for our valued racers and patrons who have supported the track for more than 5 decades. There is a potential buyer lined up for the land that SRP owns and operates. The sale is by no means official yet, and we will issue a statement if and when it is. We understand how frustrating this can be for you all and we will update you as soon as possible this season. The current timeline is around September of 2023…we will know whether or not the sale is official. If at that point in time it does go through, we will finish out the remainder of the 2023 season and SRP would be officially closed by 2024. If the sale does not go through, we will continue operating for as long as possible. We appreciate all your support and whether or not the sale goes through, we hope to see you at the track this season!
The announcemtn is old but accurate. Dave has had a lot of health issues this year. I would not expect Sac Raceway to continue to be a dragstrip for that much longer. So go enjoy it while you can and keep supporting the facility.
It was a good race and not been there in over 15+ years. The turnout with the West Coast Outlaw class made for some interesting fun. Made some new friends and shared a canopy from the sun. Seen about 1/2 dozen friends at the show. Swap meet was slow, but money was changing hands. seeing cars run down the strip and rooting your favorites was going strong. A couple times the track got oiled down from motors saying nope and the stoves let go before taking a full load. some guy in the prettiest Corvette must have had an argument with the 60 ft timing light cause his car went hard right over the barrier and knocked it the F out of commission and left the front clip there. I had to leave at 5pm, was crashing hard from no sleep on a 60 hour run. Looking forward to getting a car done someday so I can share in the fun.

…..and Rods car sports that mythological “440 HEMI” but I cannot confirm that the “20 dollar bill” that nobody can reach for is still there. It’s a Gen III mill
From what I have been told, the county has made it very clear that the property is in the path of planned community growth. That growth does not include a race track. Go figure...
My first trek to Sac….. I rather enjoyed the track. Kinda reminded me of the track I’d frequent in my SoDak days. Wish it wasn’t so dang far away. That’ll be #4 on the “tracks no longer in operation” list I’ve run at.
Weird poster/T shirt there Jay. Who wants to see two S/ST cars on a T shirt. I have a very good friend who is close with Dave and the entire family. If his health was not an issue the tracks closing would not be an issue.
