SB 59 Degree Bronze Lifter Bores - 07/21/23 05:25 AM

I am wondering if anyone has successfully run solid flat tappet lifters in a 59 degree SB LA with bronze lifters bores and pushrod oiling? I am kind of over the solid roller deal street/strip use with spring pressures and bronze oil pump drive gears. Time for something a little more streetable. Getting old and cranky

I run a solid with bushed lifter bores, but don’t pushrod oil.

Are you having problems with the bronze drives? I run them and get several thousand miles out of them on the street. I run as light of an oil as I can to keep the drag down on it and I drilled a small hole in the oil galley plug that sprays oil directly on the gear.

I would be disappointed in the wear if this were a daily driver but it is just on occasional driver that only sees real miles if I do Drag Week.

No, I am pulling the engine down over the next week or so due to failure of a couple of rocker trunion bearings on my T&D’s. I was contemplating going back to a solid flat tappet from the solid roller for a little more durability. But then the reason I went solid roller as I wiped 3 lobes on a flat tappet. What a conundrum.
Just wonder if the bushed bore with an oil hole would provide enough lubrication to face of the lifter.

Where your T&D stainless or aluminum bodies?
How much spring pressure and how long did they last(approximately)?

I shouldn’t complain really. Installed them on solid flat tappet late 2017 wiped a lobe. Then built the solid roller engine which was dynoed early 2019 and has been together since. Thousands of street miles, plus 40 or so passes, and lost count on how many roll race type hits we have over here at sanctioned off street car events. Should also mention the idling it cops when street driving.
Springs are at 260 seat and 665 open. Oh and they are aluminium bodies.

Going back to flat tappet lifters, is it likely you'll have too much lifter bore clearance?

I bet I will.
Pulling the engine this weekend and diagnose.

I've heard and seen post on here about all brands of aluminum roller rocker am breaking including Jesel, my next set of race roller rocker arms will be steel, not aluminum from now on up scope
They are more expensive initially but most of the time that money spent saves us down the road later from breaking them and hurting other engine parts when they fail work

I had issues with the T&D rockers and had them make me a bushed set 4 years ago. Same with lifters. Went to bushed.

No more needle bearings in an engine for me.

My theory also my friend.
