Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/04/23 12:19 PM

Well after about a year and a half of work, my '62 is finally converted over from the old small block turbo combo and ready to run.

I have had so much help from so many people, but more than anyone my Dad (dvw) has just put in HUNDREDS of hours into this car. No doubt I would have eventually gotten it done, but no where near the quality and craftsmanship level he brought to the project. Not to mention the hours my Mom put in helping on the interior, giving up time with my Dad, and keeping us alive!

HardcoreB built a hell of a motor for the combo too, and went above and beyond the original commissioned engine build he took on.

So here is the combo, and the obligatory moparts question for any new build.... what will it run?

3570lbs with driver ready for the starting line (heavier than I was hoping!)
4.10 Dana with Caltracs, 29.5 x 10.5 Pro Bracket Radials, and Mencer Double Adjustable Afco's
727 with good strong parts and Aluminum Drum.
TA 8" converter spec'd for the combo (target 6200 stall)

486" Low Deck (4.385" bore x 4" stroke)
Indy SR Heads, w/ 2.25" ti valves (flow 360cfm?)
275@.050 / .762" Lift Roller Cam, T&D 1.6 rockers, with PAC Springs
Crower Ultra light crank, BME Aluminum Rods, with flat top pistons (12.2:1 compression)
Hooker 2-1/8" headers with 3.5" collector
Mod Man intake (which we named the SeanMan after the heavy runner length/porting/design changes of HardcoreB's work.)
Two 750 AFB's
Electric water pump & Vacuum pump pulling 10~12"

By the way the engine sounds, it will run 9.90's, but I think the 4.10's might slow it down some, and need a 4.56 rear gear. Just My opinion. I think 10.25's are reasonable.

No really good at these guessing games but I’m sure it will run great. Nice job guys. Now go have fun.

It will run strong and look great doing it! Built with LOVE boogie

Thinking 9.80's at Lapeer or Martin, and 10.20's at Milan if you go on a night when they aren't radial prepping. The car looks outstanding, love the interior and patina!

No idea what it will run but certainly looks awesome. Nicely done.

I'm going to guess 9.70's @ around 136 for the first outing, then you guys will continue to drop from there.... probably a 9.50 or better in it before the year is over.

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/04/23 06:12 PM

I've thought about building a 4.0 stroke B/RB stroker motor but haven't built one yet realcrazy, maybe next year luck I've built more than one 3.91 stroke B and Rb motors and 4.150, 4.250, 4.320 and several 4.375 strokers with stock Mopar rod jourmnal sizes, never again using the 2.375 rod journal diameter by choice twocents
What made you decide to use that stroke?
I'm thinking that combination will like RPM bowdevil up

you guys do great stuff, you looking to adopt a brother or a son???

I cant wait to hear how it runs.

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/04/23 06:21 PM

I will guess 10.0 in some good air - 10.25 in the summer - The interior came out killer! surprised its so heavy - but then again mine is 3800 with me in it and I have a glass hood and bumpers

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/04/23 06:21 PM

It will go 9's, no doubt. May like a bit more gear (4.30 or 4.56). Curious to here how the Ken Keir wheelie bars work with Caltracs.

i
Cab, years ago i built a 475 cube rb motor out of a stock crank cut to 2.10 sbc size at 4.0 inch, using a BME 396 aluminum custom rod. It worked great for what it was. The rod was 7.10 long, which fit some stroker pistons i had from a motor that broke a crank. The 2.10 bearings held up well, and the second owner got a lot of life out of it

This is a 2.100", BME rod combo.

I'm sure it's going to want some RPM with that light rotating Assy. 2.25" Ti intake, and big bore!

Thanks for all the love...heading to Stanton tomorrow for the weekend.

That's another one of the cool cars on here. I bet its going to run 9.80's.......but I think it's going to want 4.56's back there.

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/05/23 01:44 AM

I'm disappointed I can't make it out but I have some other things to attend to and of course wishing you good luck! We might have to shift our expectations a tenth in consideration of the extra weight but hopefully it gives us all a good surprise. Nice finish work guys and ladies, it looks GREAT!!! NO MORE GEAR ...We think the 4.1 is about optimum. I was hoping to keep it below 72 for a long life but, it is Scott's deal now.

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/05/23 02:19 AM

excellent work I'm thinking to much stall ,you might be missing the bottom end torque off the line just my .$02 I would say 5200 -5400 i would think. however its a very cool body style and build . Chop down the tree!!!

I’ll throw my hat in the ring with a 9.6? before long. All involved are pretty sharp fellas and this has had a lot of planning put into it. Looks great guys! Eager to hear the results!

Remember Doug and Hardcore worked on it therefore it'll be in the mid to upper 9"s.

Pretty aggressive camshaft so I'd guess 9.75.

Looks like fun!!!

FWD: Somethings up with the trans, because it ran the last 300ft on the Rev limiter at 7500 rpm. But it's pretty quick already in the front half.

I just forward Scott's text to me. I guess this was his first 'full' hit if you dont count his first hit with the rev limiter set at 4600rpm? Either way I think they're getting after it pretty good so far! BREAKING...Just got a new text "WAY TOO MUCH FLUID"...hope this fixes it!!!

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/06/23 12:20 AM

Unfortunately only got one semi good run in. Something is broke in the trans or converter.

Pretty happy with the 1.33 60ft, and 6.23 in the 1/8th at only 106mph is promising for sure.

Will get it back home and torn apart.

Very good leave. Wheelie bar just keeps the front tires dancing.

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/06/23 02:36 AM

Good first outing! The 1/8 mile in my car would run a 6.21 and the 1/4 mile would be a 9.75. Your converter may be just a tad too loose. Tighten it up 200/300 IMO.

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/06/23 02:36 PM

I got a lot of help from a lot of people. In addition to DVW a d HardcoreB...

My mom did the lexan window straps and helped with the headliner. A friend Virginia did the carpet, Steve bent the roll cage, Kyle welded the bars, Dave built the intake spacer and welded up the valve cover, Jerry painted the motor, scoop, and wheels....and most of all my wife tolerated all of it in the middle of working and going to school to get her masters degree at the same time.

Lots of chaos, lots of help. All makes for a good life!

We will get the trans fixed up and will be back out.

Awesome first pass. It'll be running solid mid 9's by the summer!

I also haven't been to Stanton in forever, nice to see it's got concrete barriers now instead of armco.

My hat is off to all who contributed to this build. IMHO IT will eventually show itself to be a REAL overachiever, based on what is in this whole package. The 60 ft says it has power to run sub 9.80? 6.23 equals 9.80?

Re: Finally DONE! What will it run?!?!? - 05/06/23 05:01 PM

I'm happy to be one part of the whole picture and I'm happy it's showing some promise that it will be where we've thought. Impressive to me that the first try got it 1.33 60ft and and i'm pretty sure there's more to be had. For us that are trying to quantify the one timeslip (me included), apparently something is mechanically wrong-enough in the driveline that the car isn't moving well driving thru the pits now. Looking at DVW's weather these aren't stellar conditions so, there's hope it isn't too far off. We we're both hoping/expecting it'd run 9.7's first time out but that was assuming it'd not have the typical AFB stumble AND expecting it'd be sitting at 3400lbs (170 lbs lighter) Additionally, it was hitting 7500rpm at about 125mph with a 4.1 gear and a 30" tire.
