what is the ultimate 12 volt battery?

for a drag car with an alternator? thanks.

I just pulled one out of my dragster thats been setting for 3 years and it still has 12 volts in it lol.

Its probably 10 years old and the only battery I have had in the last 3 race cars.....

i'm using a gel cell deep cycle marine battery. put on the charger the night before racing & it kicks my 512 over like a low comp 4 banger. been doing this a few years now & seems to survive the winter hibernation like it was just another day.

Well I don't know about ultimate, but the red top Optimum is for cars with alternators and the yellow top is for cars without. Both seem to be pretty tough batteries.

Optima's are total garbage ,i've had to replace the one in my car twice in the past four years..finally had enough and put a regular battery in it everything is fine now..

I have had some trouble with red top optimas. I have an Oddessey in the race car and it works great.

Optima went through a change several years ago. My 8 year old red top in the race car is still in service with no problems. I keep it on a "battery tender" regulated charger between weeks of racing and during the winter.

I have heard many bad reports of Optima batteries in the last few years.

They did seem to take a dive but are on the rebound. We are returning way way less for warranty then we used to. Sales are way up as well so seeing a decline in returns means alot. Since last thursday we have sold 44 red tops .

I don't know aout them being garbage,just my experience. All of these racers can't be wrong, though. Just an observation. It's supposedly one of the most used batteries in racing. Thats why I have one. We'll see if its still good after the winter.lol

I have a production Mopar battery(who ever makes them)
been in there 6 years and I dont do a thing to it,
not even a charger
