E body - tire and wheel size

E body - tire and wheel size - 12/25/22 03:26 AM

I am putting the Dr diff 1" offset spring hangers and 67 Dana60 in my Barracuda this winter. What size DOT drag radial or bias ply slick is a good fit?

29.5x10.5x15 bias ply on a ten inch wide rim work scope up
What year Cuda and are the leaf springs in the stock location still?

We used to run a 10 x 15 with a 5" back spacing with the old mopar offset kit and a 29.5 x 10.5 bias ply. The tyres would stick out of the bodywork 1/2" and we'd have 3/8" clearance (min) to the leafs, this was with an E body width Dana. Street tyres were ok but the slicks would rub sometimes when turning, mainly catching on the spring.
We then moved the front spring mounts to the frame rails and put spacers and longer bolts in the shackles to give everything another 1 1/4" clearance, we also narrowed the axle 1" per side to b body width.
With the same size and back spacing wheels, the tyres tuck nicely under the arch, which was good since we lowered the rear 1 1/2" at the same time. We now use a radial slick which is narrower than its bias ply counter part of the same designated size.
Tyre is still close to the body work (outset) but doesn't rub since the car has plenty of rise in the rear, no rubbing on the springs either.
This on a '74 Dodge Challenger (European Export model if that makes any difference) Anyway, HTH's up

I have a 68-70 B body Dana under my challenger and run a 295 65-15 drag radial on an 8" wheel with 4.5" of bs.
I run -1 ride height caltracs with no issues. I don't know how to post pics from my phone on here or I'd share some pics

We mini tubbed mine and relocated the springs to the frame rails. I have Caltracs with -1" split mono leafs. I have 15x12 wheels with 315/60/15 Drag Radials and also run 29.5x10.5W slicks as well.

70 Barracuda. Stock location springs, Caltracs, 275-60 dot drag radials for the last 20 years. Next time it's back sitting on tires it will have the springs 1" inboard per side and a 67 Dana. I think it will fit 295-65 when done.

Ask Dr Diff. I believe he says you can fit 325 x 15 on 10" rims under an ebody with his offset kit and a b-body dana.

I run a 295/65/15 drag radial with a 68-70 b-body rear 15x8 wheels with 4.5 bs. They fit perfectly and lots of room. I also run a 29x11.5 quick time pro. I could have went bigger but wasn’t sure how much a bias grows and moves around.

I have the old school MP offset hangers on this beast. I can run 325x50x15 Drag Radials, 30x12.5 ET Streets or 28x13.5 ET Streets on this combo.

A 295/65/15 on a 15x8 w/ 4.5 backspace fits really nice with no rubbing, even with 5 people in the car. A 69 B-Body Dana and Dr. Diff offset hangers/shackles makes it all possible.

The 2nd pic is with 275/60 ET Streets using the same size wheel. They are rather small in comparison.

How good is the 67 Dana? I’m looking for one to change over from my 69 Dana axel in my 66 car

This is a 29 x 10.0 slick on a 10in wheel with a 5.5in backspace. I also built my Dana to B-body width and have the springs relocated in the rear with offset hangers. Anything with a 13.5in section width is about the limit IMO.

I'm running that same DrDiff set-up on my '70 with 325/50-15's. I did clearance the fender lip slightly just in case. I also used steel 1/4" spacers that I double checked fitment on the rim's mounting flange to fine tune the tire location within the wheel well. I also had to grind the leaf spring on the side slightly to add more clearance. They don't rub anywhere.

Re: E body - tire and wheel size - 12/29/22 02:07 PM

I use a stock width E body Dana, 3/4" offset rear shackles, stock front spring hangers.
15x8 rim, 4.5" backspace, 295-65 radial.
Had to trim the top inside of the wheel lip for clearance, but otherwise it fits good.

Using the B body rear and the Dr Diff kit is the way to go though.
Eventally I'll narrow my Dana and use that kit to fit a 10" wheel.

The 1967 Dana 60 had course spline axles that are not as good as the later,1970,1971 35 splined axles. They may also be one inch narrower than the 1968 and 1969 B body Dana 60 are confused scope

First of all, I love this thread. Just what I needed to know / confirm. I'll be using a B body width Dana 60 with disc brakes and a 1" off-set system.

I dig your car 8sec70Cuda. Mr. Porter used your engine / cam & car in our conversations to help me dial in the cam specs for my 540ci Hemi. I'm not shooting for 8's though, definitely a milder combo for mostly street and some strip use. If I run a low 10s or high 9s I'll be super happy.

I like the looks of the 275/60/15 drag radial. I use a 15x9 wheel, my leaf springs are in stock location.
